Key Responsibilities as Junior Game Designer 1. Content Design & Systems Implementation Creative Content Ownership: Conceptualize, pitch, and design engaging, varied content across multiple areas of RuneScape, managing independent micro-tasks while contributing to macro studio expansions. Hands-on Scripting: Write and deploy your designs directly into the engine using RuneScript, establishing the logic, trigger states, quest flags, and reward mechanisms behind your features. Design Documentation: Standardize, author, and maintain explicit game design documents (GDDs) to ensure engineering, art, and QA branches stay perfectly aligned. 2. Live-Ops Collaboration & Community Integration Weekly Update Cadence: Collaborate within agile, multi-disciplinary development sprints alongside engineers, artists, and sound designers to deliver polished weekly game updates. Systemic Synergy: Deepen your knowledge of RuneScape’s legacy system architecture, ensuring all new quests, items, or skills integrate organically into the 25-year-old economy. Community Engagement: Partner closely with our embedded Community Management division to gather, synthesize, and analyze active player sentiment, applying player insights to your iterative design workflows. What We Are Looking For (Selection Criteria) Core Requirements RuneScape Expertise (Essential): A profound, comprehensive working knowledge of RuneScape, including its core skills, quest structures, progression economies, lore, and intrinsic player behaviors. You must deeply understand the player base because you are a part of it. MMO Design Principles: A foundational understanding of MMORPG content loops, micro/macro progression design, reward schedules, and systemic gameplay mechanics. Technical Scripting Aptitude: Basic experience with scripting or object-oriented programming (e.g., Python, C#, C++, Lua, JavaScript, or game engine visual scripting frameworks), demonstrating the logical aptitude to master RuneScript. Teamwork & Soft Skills: Experience working collaboratively within a team environment—whether via professional game development, active community modding, indie projects, or university collaborations.
