The Role :
The Background Artist is responsible for designing and painting highly detailed backgrounds. Working closely with the Art Director and creative leads, you will be instrumental in exploring and developing backgrounds that align with the specific vision and aesthetic of the show.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Design & Layout: Work with the Art Director to create scene set designs, floor plans, and orthographic designs with multiple angles as required.
- Painting & Quality Control: Paint detailed backgrounds, layouts, and all other necessary background-related art, ensuring the quality and style of the show is consistently met.
- Color Projects: Fulfill all color projects, including, but not limited to, color scripts, color lead sheets, storyboards, and special backgrounds/effects pertaining to each episode.
- Pipeline Awareness: Propose design approaches that thoughtfully consider the needs of downstream departments, such as modeling and texturing.
- Deadline Management: Complete all rough, revised, and final designs within assigned deadlines.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Art Director to proactively resolve any design issues.
- File Management: Ensure all artwork is properly backed up, stored appropriately, and prepared for shipping on time.
Qualifications :
- Experience: Previous experience on an animated feature film, TV series, or game is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Photoshop is required.
- Artistic Mastery: Must demonstrate high-level drawing and painting skills.
- Visual Knowledge: Solid understanding of core principles including composition, value, perspective, color, shape language, and overall design.
- Style & Versatility: Must demonstrate proficiency in the specific style of the show. We highly value stylistic versatility due to the distinctive visual language of each Sony Pictures Animation project.
- Communication: Ability to articulate creative ideas clearly.
- Work Style: Able to work both independently and effectively within a team environment.
Compensation & Application :
- Salary: The anticipated hourly rate is $\$59.16$ to $\$65.00$ (Actual salary may vary based on experience).
