Rodeo FX is looking for a Lighting Supervisor to lead the artistic and technical direction of the Lighting team at its growing Bengaluru studio. You will oversee lighting quality across shots and sequences, guide artists through production, and work closely with VFX, CG, Compositing, and Production teams to deliver work that matches the project’s creative vision.

This is a leadership role for an experienced VFX lighting professional who can balance artistic quality, technical problem-solving, production deadlines, and team development. You will also contribute to Houdini-based workflows, pipeline improvements, and the continued growth of the Bengaluru Lighting department.

In 2026, Rodeo FX opened its newest studio in Bengaluru, expanding its global network across Canada, the United States, Europe, and India.

Located at International Tech Park Bengaluru, the 40,000-square-foot studio is designed to accommodate up to 400 artists and supports both Rodeo FX and Mikros Animation.

The Bengaluru team works as part of Rodeo FX’s global pipeline, collaborating with artists, supervisors, and production teams across multiple international locations.

As a Lighting Supervisor, you will be responsible for the overall lighting quality delivered by the team.

You will turn creative direction into practical lighting approaches, provide feedback during production, approve work, solve technical challenges, and help artists achieve the required visual quality.

You will also work closely with Production to manage workload, identify risks, and keep sequences moving toward delivery.

Beyond day-to-day supervision, the role gives you an opportunity to help improve Houdini lighting workflows, tools, documentation, and production practices within a growing studio.

🎨 Visual Direction

You will help establish how lighting should look and behave across a project.

• Translate creative direction into clear lighting briefs.
• Define lighting approaches for shots and sequences.
• Maintain visual consistency across multiple shots.
• Work with VFX, CG, and Compositing Supervisors to match the overall project look.
• Review lighting during dailies and provide practical feedback.
• Approve final lighting deliveries.
• Adjust creative approaches based on client and supervisor feedback.

👥 Team Leadership

You will provide direction and support to Lighting artists throughout production.

• Lead and motivate the Lighting team.
• Provide clear artistic and technical guidance.
• Help artists understand expectations and priorities.
• Participate in artist casting and shot assignments.
• Work with Production to balance workloads.
• Monitor artist progress and identify support needs.
• Address performance concerns professionally and quickly.
• Encourage knowledge sharing and continuous development within the team.

🔧 Technical Supervision

You will help ensure that lighting work is both visually strong and technically production-ready.

• Ensure renders follow studio technical standards.
• Review scene organization, naming, optimization, and render quality.
• Troubleshoot lighting and rendering problems.
• Identify recurring technical issues and recommend solutions.
• Work with Pipeline and HOD teams on Houdini lighting tools.
• Participate in testing and improving lighting tools.
• Document workflows and project-specific techniques.
• Help maintain consistent technical practices across projects.

📅 Production & Delivery

You will work closely with Production to keep the Lighting team aligned with project schedules.

• Help plan sequence timelines.
• Review workloads and delivery progress.
• Track upcoming deadlines and potential bottlenecks.
• Communicate production risks early.
• Help prioritize tasks when schedules change.
• Adjust lighting strategies according to production needs.
• Participate in intermediate reviews and final delivery discussions.
• Contribute to post-mortems and team retrospectives.

🔄 Workflow Development

A key part of the role is helping the department work more efficiently.

• Define practical lighting workflows for different project requirements.
• Recommend improvements to existing processes.
• Help standardize Houdini lighting workflows.
• Contribute to the development of reusable tools and methods.
• Work with Pipeline and technical teams to improve production efficiency.
• Help document successful workflows for future projects.
• Adapt workflows when creative or technical requirements change.

This role goes beyond reviewing shots. As Lighting Supervisor, you will help create an environment where artists can work efficiently, understand expectations, solve problems, and deliver consistently strong work.

Essential Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional VFX experience in feature film and/or episodic productions.
• Significant experience as a Lighting Lead, Lighting Supervisor, or equivalent senior role.
• Advanced knowledge of Houdini lighting.
• Strong production experience with Karma and/or Arnold.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality photorealistic lighting.
• Excellent understanding of lighting, composition, color, atmosphere, and visual storytelling.
• Proven experience leading and reviewing Lighting artists.
• Strong understanding of the complete VFX production pipeline.
• Good knowledge of CG-to-Compositing workflows.
• Advanced knowledge of Universal Scene Description (USD).
• Familiarity with Nuke.
• Experience with Flow Production Tracking (ShotGrid) or an equivalent production tracking system.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to remain focused and make decisions under production pressure.
• Strong professional English communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with teams across multiple studios and time zones.
