About Behaviour Interactive: A Global Powerhouse
Headquartered in Montreal, Behaviour Interactive is a cornerstone of the global gaming industry. We are a dynamic, independent studio of over 1,200 passionate employees spread across locations in Toronto, Seattle (Midwinter Entertainment), Rotterdam, and the UK (North & South).
Our studio operates on two core pillars:
- Original Games: We are the creators of the legendary Dead by Daylight, a title that redefined the horror genre.
- Services: We collaborate with the giants of entertainment, including Disney, Sony, Activision, and Nintendo, delivering top-tier work-for-hire development and immersive location-based entertainment (LBE).
By joining our team, you become part of a legacy that values innovation, autonomy, and the pursuit of excellence in every frame.
The Project: Blight: Survival
Blight: Survival is an ambitious action-horror roguelite set in the “no man’s land” between two desperate kingdoms locked in a ceaseless war. In this realm of death and decay, a new strain of Blight has erupted from the remains of the fallen. Nourished by the blood of the battlefield, it transforms man into monster.
As a Senior VFX Artist, you will be responsible for visualizing this corruption. You will create the blood, the spores, the fire, and the magical decays that make this world feel dangerously alive.
The Role: Senior VFX Artist
In the competitive landscape of VFX Artist jobs, this role stands out by offering true creative agency. You will not just be executing tasks; you will be helping to define the visual language of a brand-new IP.
Core Responsibilities
To succeed in this role, you must be a hybrid of an artist and a technician. Your daily mission will include:
- Translating Vision into Reality: Working closely with the Art Director to create high-quality visual effects that align with the dark, gritty aesthetic of Blight: Survival.
- The Bridge of Collaboration: Acting as the essential link between the Art, Design, and Programming departments. You will ensure that VFX are not only visually stunning but also support and enhance gameplay mechanics and player feedback.
- Technical Implementation: Developing complex particle systems and shaders within Unreal Engine 5. You will be expected to utilize Niagara and other UE5 tools to their absolute limit.
- Platform Optimization: Video game VFX must be performant. You will be responsible for optimizing your effects to ensure they run smoothly across PC and console platforms without losing their visual punch.
- Mentorship and Standards: As a senior member of the team, you will help establish best practices for the VFX pipeline, providing guidance to junior artists and ensuring a high bar of quality across the entire project.
What We Are Looking For (Requirements)
We understand that the best candidates looking for VFX Artist jobs are those who possess a unique blend of “artistic eye” and “technical brain.”
Technical Expertise
- Experience: A proven track record in the video game industry, with a portfolio showcasing high-quality gameplay VFX in shipped titles.
- Unreal Engine 5: Mastery of UE5 is non-negotiable. We are looking for in-depth expertise in its particle systems (Niagara), material editor, and blueprint integration.
- Artistic Sense: A strong ability to propose visually appealing designs that match the specific “medieval-horror” vision of the game. You should understand timing, weight, and color theory as they apply to VFX.
- Houdini (Asset): While not strictly required, knowledge of Houdini for simulations (fluid, smoke, destruction) is considered a significant asset.
Professional Competencies
- Autonomy: We value artists who are comfortable with rapid iteration. You should have a keen sense of where to focus your energy to improve quality where it matters most.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. You will be working in a highly collaborative team environment where clear ideas are the key to success.
- Problem Solving: The ability to look at a technical limitation and find a creative, optimized solution is a hallmark of our senior team members.
