What You Will Do: Impact and Innovation

We believe that the best way to learn is by doing. As a Rigging Intern at Guerrilla Games, your responsibilities will evolve as you grow, but your core focus will include:

1. Developing with Python-Based Systems

The modern rigging pipeline at Guerrilla is heavily automated. You will work within our custom, in-house developed Python rigging framework. You will learn how to write modular code that can generate complex rigs for a variety of creatures, humans, and mechanical entities, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the entire production.

2. Production Asset Creation

You won’t just be working on “toy” projects. Under the guidance of our senior staff, you will have the opportunity to produce rig assets for our upcoming, unannounced releases. Whether it is a mechanical prop, a secondary character, or a complex piece of environment art, your work will be part of the actual game development cycle.

3. Tooling and Pipeline Optimization

Efficiency is key in AAA development. You will be tasked with identifying bottlenecks in the rigging or animation workflow and creating Python-based tools to solve them. This might include custom Maya UIs, automated skinning utilities, or data validation scripts that ensure our assets are engine-ready.

4. Proprietary Engine Integration

Guerrilla is home to the Decima Engine. You will learn how rigging data is processed and optimized for real-time performance. This includes understanding the constraints of a game engine, such as joint counts, draw calls, and how to maintain visual quality while ensuring the game runs at a smooth frame rate.

Who You Are: Qualifications and Mindset

To be successful as a Rigging Intern at Guerrilla Games, you must possess a unique blend of technical logic and artistic intuition. We are looking for candidates who are “obsessed with the how”—those who want to know exactly how a shoulder deforms or how a script can save five hours of manual labor.

The Essentials:

  • Educational Status: You must be currently enrolled in a Dutch educational institution (MBO/HBO/University) in a relevant field such as Technical Art, Computer Science, or 3D Animation.
  • Location: You must be able to work on-site in our Amsterdam studio. You must live within a commutable distance or be willing to relocate to the Amsterdam area for the duration of the internship.
  • Technical Foundation: You have a solid understanding of Python. In the context of a Rigging Intern and Guerrilla Games, coding is our primary tool for scaling production.
  • Software Proficiency: You have significant experience with Autodesk Maya. You should be familiar with the Node Editor, constraints, and the fundamental principles of rigging (IK/FK, skinning, and blendshapes).

The “Guerrilla” Mindset:

  • Proactive Problem-Solver: You don’t wait for a solution; you go looking for it. You enjoy the “detective work” required to debug a script or fix a rig.
  • Passion for Innovation: You are fascinated by the latest developments in real-time technology, from machine learning-based deformation to complex physics-based rigging.
  • Collaborative Spirit: You enjoy working in a team environment. You can take technical concepts and explain them clearly to artists, and vice versa.

Choosing to be a Rigging Intern at Guerrilla Games means choosing a path of excellence. We offer an inclusive, high-energy environment where your voice is heard.

  • World-Class Mentorship: You will have regular 1-on-1 sessions with senior riggers who are invested in your professional growth.
  • Inclusive Culture: We believe that diversity drives innovation. Our studio is a melting pot of global talent, and we strive to make everyone feel empowered.
  • The Amsterdam Experience: Our studio is located in the vibrant heart of Amsterdam, offering a rich cultural experience alongside your professional development.
  • Career Launchpad: Many of our interns go on to secure full-time positions within the Sony Interactive Entertainment ecosystem.

How to Apply

If you believe you are a fit for the role of Rigging Intern at Guerrilla Games, we want to see your work.
Application Requirements:

1. CV: Highlighting your education and technical skills.
2. Cover Letter: Tell us why you want to specialize in Rigging and why Guerrilla is the right place for you.
3. Portfolio/Reel: Provide a link to your rigging reel. We are specifically looking for clean skinning, efficient rig hierarchies, and examples of Python scripts you have written to solve rigging challenges.

Deadline for Submission: April 24th, 2026.
