Guerrilla Games – Sound Design Intern (Tech Audio), 2026

Guerrilla Games - Sound Design Intern (Tech Audio)

Guerrilla Games, the world-renowned developer behind the breathtaking Horizon series and the iconic Killzone franchise, is opening its doors for a highly motivated and technically curious Sound Design Intern to join our specialized Tech Audio team. Located in the vibrant heart of Amsterdam, this internship is an invitation to step behind the curtain of AAA game audio and help us define the sonic landscapes of the future.

At Guerrilla Games, we don’t just “add sound” to games; we build living, breathing acoustic ecosystems. Our Tech Audio team is the bridge between creative sound design and the cutting-edge engineering of our proprietary Decima Engine. This is a role for the “thinker-creators”—those who are as fascinated by the logic of a sound system as they are by the sound itself.

The Mission: Sound Design Intern

The Tech Audio team at Guerrilla is a vital, multidisciplinary unit that collaborates across the entire studio. We work hand-in-hand with Sound Designers, Composers, and Dialogue Editors, as well as Gameplay Programmers and Engine Architects.

Our goal is simple but ambitious: to create the best-sounding game possible while maximizing technical efficiency. We focus on:

  • Asset & System Creation: Building the tools that allow sound to react dynamically to the player’s every move.
  • Workflow Optimization: Designing pipelines that allow our creative teams to iterate at high speeds without technical friction.
  • Performance Engineering: Ensuring that our rich audio environments run smoothly across all hardware, optimizing for memory and CPU usage without sacrificing quality.

As an intern, you will be embedded directly within this team, contributing to the development of our world-class audio technology using the Decima Engine.

What You Will Do: Creative Engineering

This Sound Design internship is designed to be a balance of creative exploration and technical implementation. You will be given the mentorship and the tools to make a tangible impact on our projects.

1. Implementing Sound Logic

You will use the Decima Engine to implement complex sound logic. This goes beyond simple “triggering”—it involves creating procedural audio behaviors, managing spatialization, and ensuring that audio assets respond to real-time game data (such as materials, distance, and environmental physics).

2. System Design and Maintenance

A significant part of your role will be designing and implementing systems that support specific game features. Whether it’s a dynamic footstep system, environmental reverb zones, or complex weapon acoustics, you will learn how to build robust systems that can scale across a massive open world.

3. Collaboration and Observation

You will spend time observing and learning from experienced colleagues across our different audio sub-teams. This provides a holistic view of the audio pipeline, from the first foley recording to the final mix. You’ll see how creative intent is translated into technical requirements.

4. R&D and Exploration

Guerrilla is a place of innovation. You will be encouraged to explore both the creative and technical aspects of game audio technology. You might spend time experimenting with DSP tools or scripting new utilities to help the sound design team work more efficiently.

Who You Are: The Hybrid Audio Expert

Guerrilla Games looking for a candidate who lives at the intersection of music/sound and technology. You should be someone who isn’t satisfied with a static sound file—you want to know how to make it live inside a digital world.

Mandatory Requirements as Sound Design Intern:

  • Educational Status: You must be currently enrolled in a Dutch educational institution (University, HBO, or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Audio Engineering, Music Technology, Game Design, or Computer Science.
  • Location: You must be able to work on-site in our Amsterdam studio. You should be within a reasonable commuting distance or willing to relocate locally for the duration.
  • Timing: You must be available for a full-time internship starting September 1st, 2026.
  • Legal: You must be eligible to work/intern in the Netherlands.

Your Technical & Creative Profile:

  • Systemic Thinking: You have a deep interest in “systemic” sound design—the art of building rules and logic that govern how sound behaves in a non-linear environment.
  • Tool Proficiency: You have experience with game engines (Unreal, Unity, or proprietary engines). Additionally, exposure to DSP tools such as Max/MSP, Pure Data, or SuperCollider is highly regarded.
  • Coding Curiosity: You have an interest in, or basic knowledge of, programming languages like Python or C++. This is a tech-heavy role where scripting is a key part of the workflow.
  • Problem-Solver Mindset: You are naturally curious and unafraid to ask questions. When a system breaks, you enjoy the process of deconstructing it to find the solution.

Guerrilla Games is more than a studio; it is a community of world-class innovators. By joining our Tech Audio team, you are positioning yourself at the vanguard of the industry.

  • Hands-On Experience: Work on cutting-edge projects that will be played by millions of people worldwide.
  • Mentorship: Learn from some of the most respected figures in the game audio industry.
  • Culture of Diversity: We believe that varied backgrounds and perspectives help us create better games. Our studio is an inclusive environment where your unique strengths are celebrated.
  • Professional Networking: Build a professional network within the Sony Interactive Entertainment ecosystem, providing a massive launchpad for your future career.
  • Amsterdam Life: Experience one of Europe’s most beautiful and innovative cities, known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and bike-friendly lifestyle.

How to Apply

If you are ready to help us shape the future of AAA game audio, we want to hear from you.
Application Materials Required:

1. CV: Highlighting your education, technical skills, and any relevant projects or internships.
2. Cover Letter: Tell us why you are interested in Tech Audio specifically and what you hope to achieve at Guerrilla.
3. Examples of Work: Please provide a portfolio, demo reel, or GitHub link. We are looking for examples of systemic audio work, scripting, or creative sound implementation.

Deadline for Application: April 24th, 2026.
