Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) is seeking a phenomenal teammate to join our Texture department in Vancouver. The Senior Texture Artist is responsible for creating the high-fidelity textures, colors, and organic surface qualities required for the completion of complex CG creatures and hard-surface models used in feature film production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Asset Implementation: Work independently and collaboratively with the production team (VFX Supervisor, Texture Supervisor, Look Dev Supervisor) at an advanced level to implement the desired look for complicated CG models. This includes highly detailed creatures, complex hard-surface assets (ships, vehicles), and environments.
  • Collaboration & Feedback: Participate actively as a team member in determining various design solutions. Provide constructive feedback to other production members by regularly attending dailies and review sessions.
  • Mentorship: Take responsibility for guiding and mentoring Junior and Mid-Level Texture Artists, helping to elevate the skill set of the team.
  • Productivity & Quality: Maintain or exceed a consistent level of productivity while successfully meeting scheduled targets and producing work of consistently high artistic and technical quality.

Required Qualifications and Expertise

A. Experience and Education
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional VFX experience coupled with a college-level diploma or higher in computer graphics, fine arts, design, photography, or a related field.
  • OR a minimum of seven years of relevant professional VFX experience in lieu of formal education.
B. Technical and Software Proficiency
  • Core Software: Demonstrated proficiency in Maya, Mari, ZBrush, Photoshop, and industry-standard UV unwrapping tools.
  • Pipeline: Proven ability to navigate and operate effectively within complex VFX production pipelines.
  • Bonus Skills: Knowledge of Modeling, Groom, and Look Development concepts are highly beneficial. Experience with Katana and Houdini is a plus. Experience in Feature Animation is also advantageous.
C. Professional Skills
  • Detail Orientation: Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and fidelity in all texture maps.
  • Adaptability: Exceptional ability to learn quickly and assimilate new technical information.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, vital for communication across multidisciplinary teams.

Compensation and Application

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$110,600 to C$141,500 CAD per year based on a 40-hour work week. The final base pay offered will be determined by internal equity, geographic location, and the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
