VancouverVFX – Modeling / Fixed Term / Hybrid
The Role: Modeler (Primarily Character Focus)
As a Modeler, you will leverage advanced poly modeling expertise to create production-ready assets, including environments, vehicles, props, and characters, with a strong emphasis on photo-realism, accuracy, detail, and function. This position is primarily geared toward Character Modeling. You will be expected to work effectively within our in-house modeling pipeline and demonstrate strong independent technical problem-solving capabilities.
Key Responsibilities ::
- Asset Creation: Produce high-quality Character models and UVs ready for production.
- Refinement: Implement improvements and changes efficiently based on review feedback and direction from the Supervisor/Lead.
- Conceptualization: Design and implement high-level character modeling solutions, transitioning effectively from conceptual stages to practical production assets.
- Pipeline Optimization: Proactively recommend and contribute to ongoing pipeline improvements.
- Technical Problem-Solving: Identify potential technical issues, provide solutions, and escalate complex problems as necessary.
- Interdepartmental Support: Ensure seamless continuity and provide support to collaborating departments, including Texture, Surfacing/Lookdev, Generalist, and Rigging.
- Adherence: Work diligently within the defined production pipeline and established studio standards.
Qualifications and Expertise ::
- Experience: Minimum three (3) years of professional VFX experience modeling photorealistic assets for live-action feature films.
- Software Mastery:
- Expert in Maya: Demonstrated ability to utilize and troubleshoot Maya at an instructional level.
- Proficiency: Excellent knowledge of ZBrush and/or Mudbox. Mari knowledge is a plus.
- Technical Acumen:
- Excellent technical troubleshooting skills and proven problem-solving abilities.
- Strong understanding of the rigging process and displacement map workflow.
- Experience working on creatures, digi-doubles, advanced topology, and blend shapes is highly preferred.
- Artistic and Process Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to take design concepts from ambiguous starting points to full implementation.
- Exceptional eye for detail and the ability to perform rigorous self-QA to ensure the highest quality asset delivery.
- Professional Skills:
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills, with experience successfully working under tight deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven team player capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
