Walt Disney Animation Studios is seeking versatile CG Character Animators to join our Vancouver team. We are looking for artists who combine technical mastery with a deep understanding of acting, appeal, and storytelling. You will be responsible for bringing cinematic characters to life, ensuring every movement conveys truth, emotion, and distinct personality.
Key Responsibilities
- Performance & Storytelling:
- Execute high-quality character animation that advances the narrative and adheres to the film’s established visual style.
- Technical Execution:
- Utilize proprietary tools (Presto) and industry-standard software to deliver polished animation from blocking through final polish.
- Collaborative Planning:
- Analyze story context and audio tracks to develop performance ideas; present blocking and progress during Director reviews and dailies.
- Production Alignment:
- Work closely with Directors and Animation Supervisors to implement feedback, resolve technical challenges, and meet rigorous production schedules.
- Adaptability:
- Navigate various production stages—from early development to final shot delivery—while maintaining a professional and solution-oriented demeanor.
Candidate Profile
- Artistic Excellence:
- A proven ability to design rhythm, contrast, and texture within timing and spacing.
- Acting & Appeal:
- Skill in creating sincere, believable performances that prioritize character “thought” and emotional specificity.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Mastery of Maya, Presto, or equivalent 3D animation software.
- Creative Problem Solving:
- A willingness to take creative risks and contribute innovative approaches to complex animation challenges.
Requirements
- Professional Demo Reel:
- A maximum 2-minute reel demonstrating excellence in visual storytelling, weight, physics, and emotional acting.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Fine Arts, or equivalent professional experience.
- Preferred Background:
- Experience in traditional hand-drawn or stop-motion animation is considered a significant asset.
