About The Role

At Blue Zoo Animation Studio, the Storyboard Supervisor will be joining the studio to work on a production for a well-established and long-running television series. This supervisory role carries the critical responsibility for creatively directing the storyboarding process, ensuring the narrative and characters are successfully transitioned from the written script to the screen. The goal is to meticulously preserve the project’s unique charm, tone, and humour, all while strictly adhering to the show’s scope and production requirements.

Key Responsibilities (Day-to-Day)

The Storyboard Supervisor’s responsibilities encompass both team management and high-level creative direction:

  • Team Leadership:
    • Efficiently manage a team of Storyboard Artists through both the initial Thumbnail and Final Clean-Up stages.
  • Creative Oversight:
    • Collaborate closely with the Director and Editor to maintain a consistent visual and narrative show style across the entire Storyboard team, ensuring technical integrity and narrative coherence.
  • Style Establishment:
    • Define the core story style and tone through the creation and exploration of the first storyboard, and oversee the clean-up process near the end of the production cycle.
  • Artist Briefing:
    • Conduct thorough briefings for Storyboard Artists alongside the Director, providing detailed guidance on scripts.
  • Continuity Management:
    • Work directly with the artists to produce thumbnails for each episode, focusing on maintaining precise staging and story continuity.
  • Feedback & Review:
    • Add necessary notes or supplementary thumbnails to ensure all boards are complete and clear. Oversee the development of storyboards, providing continuous review and constructive feedback based on thumbnail stages.
  • Animatic Vetting:
    • Guarantee that the first animatic review effectively translates the script’s essence and functions flawlessly on a technical level within Panelforge.
  • Production Communication:
    • Keep the Director and Production Manager consistently informed of episode progress, proactively flagging and troubleshooting any potential technical or creative issues.
  • Documentation:
    • Produce all required annotations to accompany review stages, informing the client of notes related to further editorial development.
  • Feedback Collation:
    • Centralise and action client and director feedback, distributing it efficiently to the Editor and board artists for immediate revision in preparation for internal and client reviews.
