Our Gameplay Animation Team is a specialized unit focused on the intersection of player feel and aesthetic beauty. We believe that gameplay is a conversation between the player and the character, and animation is the language they use to communicate. The Mission: Stylized Excellence The industry often leans toward hyper-realism, but at Guerrilla, we are currently focusing on a project that demands a highly skilled, stylized approach. This means we need animators who understand the “exaggerated reality” of classic animation principles—squash, stretch, and clear silhouettes—and can translate them into a modern, 3D gameplay environment. This animation job is perfect for those who find joy in the “keyframe” approach, where every frame is a deliberate artistic choice. Collaborative Ecosystem No animator is an island. At Guerrilla, you will work in tight-knit “Strike Teams.” Your daily collaborators will include: Technical Animators: Who provide the rigs and tools to make your artistic visions possible. Combat Designers: Who define the “why” and “when” of a movement, while you define the “how.” VFX Artists: Who add the elemental flair that punctuates your keyframes. Direction: To ensure every movement aligns with the overarching narrative and tonal goals of the project. Deep Dive: What You Will Do This animation job carries significant weight and responsibility. As a Senior Animator, your influence will be felt across the entire project. 1. High-Impact Content Creation You will be responsible for creating compelling, entertaining, and visually striking hand-keyed gameplay animations. This isn’t limited to a single category; you will touch every facet of the character’s life: Locomotion: Making walking, running, and pivoting feel like an extension of the character’s personality. Combat: Crafting the weight behind a swing and the visceral reaction of a hit. Traversal: Ensuring that jumping, climbing, and sliding feel fluid and responsive to player input. Interactive Cinematics: Bridging the gap between player-controlled moments and storytelling beats. 2. Personality through Motion We don’t just want characters that move; we want characters that live. You will develop stylized animations that portray a wide range of personalities. Whether a character is cowardly, heroic, lumbering, or lightning-fast, their personality should be evident even if they are just standing still in an idle pose. 3. Full Lifecycle Ownership In this animation job, you aren’t just a “task-doer.” You are an owner. You will guide your animations from the initial concept and block-out phase to final in-game integration. This involves constant iteration based on feedback from peers and leads to ensure the highest possible quality. 4. Mentorship and Team Growth As a Senior at Guerrilla, part of your legacy will be the growth of those around you. You will mentor and inspire the wider animation team, sharing your years of “tribal knowledge” about hand-keying and gameplay systems to help junior and mid-level animators elevate their craft. Who You Are: Qualifications and Skills Securing a high-level animation job at a studio like Guerrilla requires a specific pedigree of experience and a passion for the medium. The Professional Foundation Experience: You possess 7+ years of relevant experience in the game industry. You have seen projects through from pre-production to ship. The Keyframe Master: Your portfolio is built on a foundation of hand-keyed work. You can demonstrate an elite understanding of timing, spacing, and weight without relying on motion capture data. Technical Prowess: You are proficient in Maya and have a proven track record of integrating your work into game engines. You understand how animation networks (state machines) function and how to troubleshoot them. The Creative Mindset Responsive Design: You understand that in an animation job focused on gameplay, “snappiness” is king. You know how to make a character feel responsive to a button press without sacrificing the beauty of the motion. Communication: You are an effective communicator who can explain complex animation concepts to non-animators, such as programmers or producers. Proactivity: You don’t wait to be told what is broken. You seek out ways to improve the character’s “game feel” and take the initiative to implement those changes. The “Plusses”: Setting Yourself Apart While the core requirements are vital, we are particularly interested in candidates who bring: Action/Combat Background: Experience specifically in third-person action titles. Pipeline Knowledge: Familiarity with industry-standard tools like JIRA, ShotGrid, and Perforce. Diverse Perspectives: Guerrilla is an equal-opportunity employer. We believe that a team with varied backgrounds produces more creative and resonant games. Your unique life experience is a value-add to our culture. Life in Amsterdam and at Guerrilla Taking an animation job at Guerrilla means relocating to one of the world’s most beautiful and walkable cities. Relocation and Support We understand that moving is a major life event. To support the right candidate, Guerrilla offers: Visa Sponsorship: We handle the legal paperwork to get you and your family to the Netherlands. This is more than a seat in a dark room; it is a chance to work with a team that values your eye for detail and provides the environment you need to thrive in a high-pressure, high-reward production cycle. About JUST VFX Studios JUST VFX Studios is a premier post-production facility dedicated to the art of the “invisible.” While high-end FX and lighting often get the glory, we know that the real magic happens in the preparation. Our studio has built a reputation for delivering surgically clean mattes and flawless prep work for major international features, OTT streaming giants, and high-budget commercials. Our philosophy is simple: Precision over shortcuts. We believe in a culture where feedback is constructive, timelines are respected, and the “old-school” craft of rotoscopy and digital paint is treated with the respect it deserves. When you join JUST VFX Studios, you aren’t just a number in a pipeline; you are a vital guardian of the image. Position 1: Roto Artist (2–6 Years Exp.) We are looking for Roto Artists who understand that a matte is not just a shape—it’s a performance. You need to be able to track the nuance of motion and provide the compositing team with the perfect foundation. What You’ll Do: Precision Matte Creation: Use Silhouette and Nuke to create consistent, flicker-free mattes for characters, hair, and complex moving objects. Motion Tracking: Leverage Mocha and point-trackers to ensure roto shapes hold perfectly across motion-blurred frames. Complex Deformations: Handle cloth, organic movement, and intricate edges with a high degree of temporal consistency. Pipeline Collaboration: Work closely with the Lead Roto Artist and Compositing Supervisors to ensure mattes meet the specific needs of the shot. What We Look For: A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a VFX studio environment. Mastery of Silhouette and Nuke Roto nodes. An eye for motion—understanding how weight and momentum affect the shape of a matte. The ability to manage tight deadlines without sacrificing edge quality. Position 2: Paint Artist (2–6 Years Exp.) Our Paint Artists are the digital surgeons of the studio. From complex rig removals to background reconstruction, you will be responsible for cleaning plates and preparing them for the final VFX layers. What You’ll Do: Rig & Wire Removal: Seamlessly remove harnesses, wires, and tracking markers from complex live-action plates. Plate Reconstruction: Rebuild backgrounds and textures behind moving objects using frame-by-frame paint and 2.5D projection techniques. Digital Makeup: Perform skin clean-up and cosmetic enhancements for high-profile talent. Texture Consistency: Ensure that grain, light, and shadow are perfectly matched during the restoration process. What We Look For: 2–6 years of experience in high-end Prep/Paint roles. Advanced proficiency in Nuke (Paint nodes and Projection) and Photoshop. A deep understanding of plate grain and color space. Experience with 3D projection workflows to handle complex camera moves. Why Join JUST VFX Studios? We know that artists have choices. That’s why JUST VFX Studios focuses on the “Artist Experience” as much as the production output. 1. High-Caliber Projects You will work on “exciting VFX projects” that span across global cinema and premium streaming platforms. Your work will be the backbone of sequences seen by millions. 2. Professional Growth We don’t want you to stay a mid-level artist forever. We provide internal training sessions, access to the latest software versions, and mentorship from industry veterans to help you transition into Lead or Compositor roles. 3. Balanced Work Culture VFX is hard work, but we strive to minimize “crunch culture” through better bidding and project management. We value your “hands-on production experience” and respect the time it takes to do a job right. 4. Competitive Remuneration We offer a salary package that is competitive with the current 2026 market standards, along with performance-based bonuses and annual reviews. Location & Work Model JUST VFX Studios operates on a Hybrid-First model. While we have physical hubs for collaborative brainstorming and high-security projects, we offer the flexibility of remote work for established artists. Studio Hubs: Available for those who prefer an office environment with high-end hardware. Remote Support: Secure VPN pipelines for artists working from home across the country. How to Apply: The Selection Process We are ready to welcome new talent into the fold immediately. If you have the eye and the experience, follow these steps: Prepare Your Materials: We need an updated Resume (PDF) and a Showreel link. Your showreel should include “Before and After” breakdowns so we can see the complexity of your Roto/Paint work. Submit Your Application: Send your email to hr@justvfxstudios.com.
