Our studio is defined by its “distinguished team” of artists who have contributed to a variety of incredible work. We have worked alongside visionary directors to bring to life projects such as:

  • Epic Features: Elvis, Thor: Love and Thunder, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

  • Intense Action: Extraction 2.

  • Sci-Fi Masterpieces: Three Thousand Years of Longing, Lost in Space, and I Am Mother.

Joining FIN VFX means becoming part of a legacy of excellence. We offer the intimacy and agility of an independent studio backed by the resources and reputation required to handle the world’s biggest intellectual properties.

The Role: Layout Artist

The Layout Artist at FIN VFX is a crucial architect of the digital frame. You are the bridge between the conceptual world of Previs and the final polished render. You will be responsible for translating 2D storyboards and 3D Previs into production-ready 3D environments, ensuring that the director’s vision for composition, lens choice, and camera movement is realized with technical accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Cinematic Composition: Utilizing your deep understanding of cinematography, you will set up virtual cameras, block out character movement, and arrange environment assets to create compelling frames. You will ensure that every shot adheres to the creative brief and maintains visual continuity.

  2. Technical Problem Solving: VFX layout is often about solving puzzles. You will be tasked with matching 3D elements to live-action plates, managing complex scene hierarchies, and ensuring that assets are positioned correctly for downstream departments like Animation, Lighting, and FX.

  3. Departmental Collaboration: Working at FIN VFX means being part of a “global team.” You will collaborate closely with Matchmove artists, Environment TD’s, and the CG Supervisor to ensure that the layout is optimized for the studio’s pipeline.

  4. Pipeline Integration: You will be expected to maintain a clean and organized workflow. At FIN VFX, efficiency is key. You will help identify potential technical roadblocks early in the production cycle and work with the technical directors to find innovative solutions.

  5. Quality Control: You will ensure that all layout deliveries meet the high standards set by our supervisors and international clients. This includes verifying scale, lens metadata, and spatial accuracy across entire sequences.

Candidate Profile: What We Look For

We are seeking artists who are not only technically proficient but also artistically curious. While we value specific software skills, we prioritize individuals who understand the why behind a shot as much as the how.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Industry Experience: Proven experience as a Layout Artist in a professional VFX or Animation studio environment.

  • Software Proficiency: A mastery of Autodesk Maya is essential. Experience with ShotGrid (Shotgun) and various camera tracking softwares is highly regarded.

  • Artistic Eye: A strong foundation in traditional cinematography, including an understanding of focal lengths, depth of field, and the “rule of thirds.”

  • Technical Skillset: Knowledge of 3D space, coordinate systems, and basic scripting (Python/MEL) is a significant advantage.

  • Communication: The ability to take direction well and communicate complex technical issues clearly to both peers and supervisors.

The FIN VFX Cultural Fit:

  • Enthusiasm: You are genuinely excited about the prospect of working on high-profile projects.

  • Resilience: You thrive in a fast-paced environment and can pivot quickly when creative directions change.

  • Team Player: You enjoy working with a global team of talented artists and technicians.

Our Offer to You

At FIN VFX, we understand that our artists are our most valuable asset. We strive to provide an environment where you can do your best work while maintaining a healthy life outside the studio.

  • Vibrant Environment: Join a growing, independent, and multi-award-winning studio located in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

  • High-End Projects: Gain the satisfaction of problem-solving for major international film, episodic, and commercial projects. Your work will be seen by millions on the big screen and major streaming platforms.

  • Remuneration & Flexibility: We offer a competitive remuneration package tailored to your skill level. Furthermore, we support a flexible work model, recognizing that modern artists need a balance between studio life and home life.

  • Global Networking: Work alongside some of the best minds in the industry, gaining insights and experience that will elevate your career to the next level.
