The Role: VFX Supervisor
As a VFX Supervisor, you occupy a critical bridge between creative intent and technical execution. You will partner directly with the Creative Leadership team to execute the visual and technical vision of an animated CG feature. This role requires a rare blend of “blue-sky” thinking and “boots-on-the-ground” problem-solving.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
Creative Partnership: Work in lockstep with the Producer, Director, Production Designer, and Art Director. Your goal is to influence and maintain the visual style of the project while ensuring the ship stays on course regarding budgets and schedules.
Technical Foundation: You are responsible for establishing the technical direction of the film. You will assess creative targets and craft a plan of action that balances high-quality output with the practicalities of the studio’s resources.
Client & Stakeholder Management: Communicate effectively with clients and upper management. You will guide shots from initial concept through final delivery, leading creative reviews and technical presentations with confidence.
Strategic Innovation: In the world of WildBrain Studios careers, we never stop evolving. You will identify, research, and implement new techniques into studio tools, ensuring that our pipeline remains cutting-edge and efficient.
Mentorship and Team Building: You will foster a supportive and inclusive team environment. This includes recommending crew training needs to the Studio CG Supervisor or Head of CG and ensuring that every artist feels empowered to do their best work.
Troubleshooting & Pipeline Oversight: Anticipate roadblocks before they happen. You will work closely with Production Technology and Pipeline teams to resolve technical issues, improving workflow through smart tool creation and workflow optimization.
Candidate Profile: What You Bring
WildBrain Studios are looking for a veteran of the industry—someone who has seen the evolution of CG and knows how to navigate the complexities of long-form production.
Essential Qualifications:
Industry Tenure: 8+ years of experience in the animation or film industry, with at least 5 years specifically in a Supervisory role.
Pipeline Mastery: An excellent understanding of the CG feature production pipeline, from asset creation to final composite.
Communication Skills: The ability to translate complex technical jargon into creative goals for directors, and vice versa.
Technical Toolkit: Experience with Arnold or RenderMan is preferred. You should be comfortable navigating high-end rendering environments.
Adaptability: The ability to work under deadline pressure while maintaining a professional, respectful, and positive demeanor.
Desirable “Nice-to-Have” Skills:
Proficiency in Maya, Nuke, or Houdini.
Experience with Gaffer or node-based software like Katana/Solaris.
A portfolio that demonstrates a deep understanding of varied animation styles and cinematic techniques.
