Problem Solving Troubleshoot bugs regarding animation implementation. Foresee challenges and suggest improvements to pipelines and workflows. Production Support leads by realistically estimating time for tasks, determining scope, and identifying risks. Find solutions to technical and creative challenges. Mentorship Participate in knowledge sharing with animators across all experience levels. Collaborate with and provide feedback to external co-dev/outsourcing partners. Company: Hangar 13 (2K Games) Location: Prague, Czech Republic Department: Technical Art The Gist We are looking for an expert Lead Technical Animator to join our team in Prague. Your main goal is to make our characters look and feel amazing when the player controls them. You will lead a team, build animation systems in Unreal Engine, and act as the bridge between the artists making the animations and the engineers writing the code. What You Will Actually Do Lead the Team: Mentor and guide a team of technical animators. You help them grow and ensure they deliver high-quality work. Build Systems: Design and build gameplay animation systems using Unreal Engine tools (like Animation Blueprints, Motion Matching, State Machines, and Control Rig). Make It Feel Good: You aren’t just playing animations; you are integrating them to ensure the gameplay feels responsive, fluid, and heavy in the right ways. Collaborate: Work constantly with Game Designers and Engineers to make sure the animation fits the gameplay mechanics. Fix Problems: When things break or run slowly, you are the one who diagnoses the issue and fixes it to keep the game running smoothly. Work with Partners: Oversee work from external partners to ensure it matches our quality standards. The Skills You Need Unreal Engine Expert: You know Unreal inside and out—specifically Blueprints, State Machines, Control Rig, and Sequencer. Gameplay Experience: You have done this before. You know how to take an animation asset and make it work inside a playable game. Good “Game Feel”: You understand mechanics and responsiveness. You know why a character might feel “laggy” or “floaty” and how to fix it. Problem Solver: You are good at figuring out why technical things are broken. Communicator: You can speak the language of artists, designers, and programmers. Bonus Points (Nice to have, but not required) You know C++ or Python. You have experience with Motion Capture (MotionBuilder) or Maya. You have worked on big Open World games before. You are interested in new tech like Procedural Animation.
