As an Assets Supervisor, you will act as the primary creative conduit between the show’s production team and the asset department artists. This involves high-level supervision across multiple artistic disciplines. Creative Supervision & Team Management Creative Conduit: Act as the central point of contact, collecting creative notes from show supervisors and relaying them clearly to the assigned artists. Mentorship: Guide and mentor artists in modeling, texturing, rigging, groom, and lookdev to achieve high-end technical and aesthetic standards. Review & Approval: Review all asset work for the show before final submission to the Head of Assets for approval. Direct Interaction: Host rounds with artists and attend show-based dailies and asset board meetings to drive production forward. 2. Technical Oversight & Troubleshooting Show Setup: Manage the setup for specific productions to ensure all asset-based templates are correctly published and functional. Optimization: Debug and optimize technical workflows in collaboration with the pipeline and DPA teams. Production & Resource Coordination Scheduling: Work with the Asset Department Producer to schedule tasks and forecast asset requirements for the show. Crewing: Collaborate with leadership to ensure crewing is adequate for the show’s needs and request specific artist assignments. Asset Definition: Clarify required assets and ensure descriptions in Shotgrid are accurate and updated. Material Organization: Oversee the ingestion of reference materials, scan data, HDRIs, and concept art, ensuring they are available to artists at the start of tasks. Qualifications: Expert Skills & Professional Experience We are looking for a veteran of the VFX industry who possesses a deep technical background and proven leadership capabilities. Experience Required: Industry Tenure: 8+ years of experience creating photorealistic assets specifically for live-action feature films or episodic content. Discipline Expertise: Expert-level skills in at least two of the following: modeling, texturing, lookdev, groom, or rigging. Foundational Knowledge: A strong understanding of all other asset disciplines is essential to effectively lead the department. Management: Previous experience leading a team of artists or a relevant background in creative management. Technical Proficiencies: Software Skills: Proficiency in Maya, Houdini, Mari, Substance Painter, and Nuke is ideal for this role. Pipeline Literacy: A firm understanding of Linux and general CG pipeline workflows is required. Advanced Tools: Python or C++ experience in a production environment is considered a significant plus.
