The Role
We are looking for an experienced 2D Head Animator to join our team immediately. In this pivotal role, you will bridge the gap between creative animation and technical execution. Working closely with the Animation Director and Rigging Lead, you will test rigs, create master controllers, and manage stock animation libraries to ensure the highest production standards. You will set the bar for the rest of the team, taking on bespoke, high-end animation tasks while ensuring the pipeline runs smoothly.
:: Key Responsibilities ::
Pipeline, Rigging & Technical Strategy ::
- Collaborate with the Animation Director and Rigging Lead to test rigs and ensure they are fit for purpose.
- Build master controllers and pose copiers to streamline the animation process.
- Create and manage stock animation reuse for tradigital and envelope rigs.
- Test heavy props and complex assets prior to episode production.
- Provide detailed notes and character breakdowns to assist the Rigging department.
Animation Execution & Quality Control ::
- Produce high-end animation that sets the standard for the team, including roughs and special character poses.
- Ensure all animation is well-timed, maintaining variety, contrast, personality, and solid silhouettes.
- Review assignments for hook-ups, reuse opportunities, and stock essentials.
- Maintain strict quality control regarding models, technical mistakes, and naming conventions.
Workflow Management & Communication ::
- Maintain and template the animation reuse library and keep the stock tracker updated.
- Communicate clearly with the Production and Animation teams regarding stock availability for specific episodes.
- Manage final exports and approvals via Ftrack.
- Ensure all assignments and retakes meet production schedules and deadlines.
- Actively troubleshoot issues to improve show efficiency.
Skills & Requirements ::
- Experience: Extensive knowledge of 2D animation is essential.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of the rigging process, master controllers, and Toon Boom techniques.
- Artistic Ability: exceptional aptitude for drawing, observation, and animation principles.
- Professional Attributes: Strong time management, self-motivation, and the ability to work within weekly quotas.
- Communication: Fluent in English (spoken and written) with strong interpersonal skills.
- Residency: Must be currently based in Ireland or available to relocate immediately.
