3D Artist jobs : Beffio studio is seeking a creative and technically adept Senior Pixel Artist to join our 3D Art Department in a fully remote capacity. This specialized role is designed for an artist who possesses a deep reverence for traditional 2D pixel art craftsmanship but is equally driven to innovate within a modern 3D game engine.
As part of our team, you will take ownership of creating high-quality, production-ready game assets—including characters, environmental elements, props, and frame-by-frame animations—while playing a foundational role in defining our studio’s unique 2.5D visual pipeline.
Operating entirely within the Unity3D ecosystem, you will transcend the boundaries of standard sprite creation by actively implementing, testing, and polishing your assets directly in-engine. Your day-to-day focus will be entirely dedicated to world-building, texture design, and gameplay aesthetics, leaving user interface (UI) and menu design entirely off your plate.
This position provides an incredible opportunity to establish production standards, pioneer hybrid 2D/3D art pipelines, and directly influence the aesthetic identity of an ambitious real-time game project alongside a collaborative, asynchronous remote team based out of Europe.

Is This Role For You?
You will thrive in this position if you meet the following artistic and technical criteria:
- Mastery of the Craft: You possess exceptional traditional pixel art skills, backed by a professional portfolio that demonstrates impeccable silhouette design, rigorous palette control, high readability at low resolutions, and deliberate, pixel-level craftsmanship.
- Stylistic Versatility: You can conceptualize and execute characters, assets, and environments that adhere strictly to a unified visual style guide, maintaining consistency across hundreds of unique assets.
- Engine Integration: You are comfortable working directly inside the Unity editor. You don’t just export assets and pass them off; you enjoy importing, configuring, testing, and adjusting your work inside the engine to ensure it looks perfect in motion.
- Hybrid Visual Curiosity: You are deeply interested in the fusion of 2D art and 3D space. You want to experiment with sprites on planes, billboard techniques, pixel-perfect camera setups, advanced tilemaps, 2.5D camera perspectives, and stylized real-time workflows.
- Production Mindset: You find equal satisfaction in the high-level artistic polish of a centerpiece asset and the methodical, practical production work required to build scalable, optimized game worlds.
Core Responsibilities for 3d artist remote jobs
As a Senior Pixel Artist, your duties will span across asset creation, engine implementation, and technical standard-setting:
1. Asset Creation & Animation
- Design and manufacture production-ready pixel art assets for a wide variety of project needs, including player characters, enemies, interactive props, environmental structures, hazard objects, and breaking elements.
- Animate characters and environmental assets, ensuring smooth motion, excellent timing, and clear gameplay readability.
- Develop specialized pixel textures and advanced surface treatments for 3D props, modular environments, and structural materials.
2. Unity Implementation & Optimization
- Prepare, import, and implement all art assets into the Unity engine.
- Take ownership of technical sprite setup, including managing asset scale, configuring crisp texture filtering settings, setting precise pivot points, organizing sorting layers, and building efficient sprite atlases and tilemaps.
- Construct and refine hybrid 2D / 3D scenes, actively defining how flat pixel art assets interact with a 3D environment, lighting system, and camera pipeline without losing their handcrafted charm.
3. Technical Art & Guidelines
- Dive deep into both traditional and modern pixel art techniques, utilizing limited color palettes, deliberate pixel clusters, controlled dithering, low-resolution texture mapping, and modular tileable layouts.
- Help establish, document, and maintain strict pixel art standards across the entire project. This includes defining universal palette rules, establishing target pixel density (Texel density), configuring export settings, maintaining file organization, and auditing the project for visual consistency.
What We Are Looking For in a 3D artist
Minimum Qualifications
- A Dedicated Portfolio: A comprehensive showcase of your work, focusing heavily on in-game assets, character designs, environments, frame-by-frame animations, and stylized textures.
- Software Expertise: Senior-level proficiency in industry-standard pixel art software such as Aseprite, Photoshop, Pyxel Edit, or equivalent toolsets.
- Unity Literacy: Direct, hands-on experience using Unity’s 2D tools. You must know how to manipulate sprites, build sprite sheets, construct tilemaps, manage sorting layers, apply basic materials, and navigate scene hierarchies.
- Artistic Fundamentals: A foundational understanding of classic art principles, including strong silhouette recognition, color theory, value contrast, visual rhythm, shape language, and animation physics/timing.
- Proven Track Record: Experience shipping or developing assets for at least one real-time game project. We highly value commercial experience, but strong indie or personal passion projects are welcome if the quality of execution is high.
- Remote Competency: Clear, concise written and verbal English communication skills. You should be thoroughly comfortable working in an asynchronous, fully remote production environment across different time zones.
Nice-to-Have Skills (Bonus Points)
- Direct experience developing or researching 2.5D or hybrid 3D pixel art workflows.
- Experience mapping pixel art textures onto low-poly 3D models or unwrapping UVs.
- Familiarity with Substance Designer to create stylized, procedural, or pixelated materials.
- Advanced knowledge of modular world-building, such as creating complex tile sets, trim sheets, and reusable environment kits.
- A basic technical understanding of texture mapping, filtering algorithms (Point vs. Bilinear), asset compression, and maintaining consistent pixel density.
- Basic familiarity with Unity Shader Graph, particularly for writing custom shaders for pixelation filters, hit-flashes, screen-space dissolves, or custom post-processing.
- Light C# scripting knowledge to help automate art pipelines or trigger simple asset behaviors in Unity.
- Experience with 3D or voxel tools like MagicaVoxel, Blockbench, or Blender.
- Prior experience designing assets under the strict performance constraints of mobile or low-spec hardware platforms.
What We Offer
- Creative Agency: Work on a project boasting a remarkably strong artistic identity, where your stylistic choices will have a direct, visible impact on the final product.
- Stability & Flexibility: A stable, full-time role tailored to your legal and financial preferences. We offer flexible contract variations, accommodating both B2B arrangements and standard employment contracts.
- Remote Culture: A fully remote workplace structure supported by a highly collaborative, organized, and production-focused team that respects work-life balance.
- Leadership Opportunities: A position where you have direct influence over visual standards, asset workflows, pipeline optimizations, and quality control.
- Skill Expansion: The space and time to explore, experiment with, and pioneer modern 2D / 3D pixel art hybrid techniques inside of Unity.
- Team Connection: An invitation to our annual team retreat, designed to align our creative vision, encourage peer-to-peer learning, and build genuine team bonds in person.
