Rodeo FX is looking for a Senior Lighting Artist to join its 3D team in Bengaluru. You will create and refine lighting and shading setups for CG environments and assets, ensuring realistic, visually engaging, and technically efficient final renders. Working primarily with Houdini, you will collaborate with Lighting, CG, Compositing, and VFX Supervisors to match the project’s visual direction. The ideal candidate should have 5+ years of professional lighting experience, strong Houdini and rendering knowledge, a solid understanding of USD, and a strong lighting demo reel.

Located at International Tech Park Bengaluru, the 40,000-square-foot studio is designed to accommodate up to 400 artists and supports both Rodeo FX and Mikros Animation.

The Bengaluru team is integrated into Rodeo FX’s global production pipeline, working with artists, supervisors, and production teams across international studios.

As a Senior Lighting Artist, you will be responsible for creating lighting setups that bring CG environments and assets to life.

Your work will help establish the mood, atmosphere, depth, realism, and visual consistency of each shot. You will work closely with Supervisors and artists from other departments to ensure that final renders integrate smoothly into the overall VFX pipeline.

This role requires both a strong artistic eye and the technical ability to build efficient, production-ready lighting setups.

💡 Lighting & Shading

• Create lighting setups based on the requirements of individual shots and sequences.
• Use Houdini lighting tools and workflows efficiently.
• Develop lighting that matches the project’s visual style and reference material.
• Refine lighting and shading to achieve realistic and visually appealing results.
• Prepare final renders for the Compositing department.
• Make adjustments based on supervisor feedback and daily reviews.

🎨 Creative Quality

• Translate the project’s visual direction into effective lighting solutions.
• Work with Lighting, CG, and Compositing Supervisors to maintain the desired look.
• Use light, color, contrast, and composition to support storytelling.
• Create appropriate mood, depth, and atmosphere within each scene.
• Maintain consistency between shots and sequences.
• Suggest creative improvements when they can strengthen the final image.

⚙️ Technical Quality

• Build clean, stable, and efficient lighting setups.
• Optimize scenes and renders without reducing visual quality.
• Follow department naming, scene structure, and versioning standards.
• Identify and fix rendering problems, artifacts, and technical issues.
• Perform quality checks before submitting work.
• Apply feedback from dailies and reviews efficiently.
• Ensure lighting setups work correctly within the wider production pipeline.

🤝 Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with Production to provide realistic time estimates.
• Communicate technical issues and potential delays early.
• Keep Production informed about shot and render progress.
• Participate in team meetings, turnovers, briefings, and dailies.
• Act as a reliable contact for lighting-related questions from other departments.
• Document useful setups and techniques to support collaboration and handovers.

📚 Learning & Knowledge Sharing

• Stay updated with new lighting techniques, rendering technologies, and industry practices.
• Experiment with new approaches that can improve quality or efficiency.
• Share useful tools, scripts, techniques, and discoveries with the team.
• Contribute to internal training and knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Stay open to new workflows and continuously improve your skills.

Essential Requirements ::

• 5+ years of professional lighting experience in a VFX or 3D animation studio.
• Experience working on high-end feature film and/or episodic productions is preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of Houdini, including lighting, shading, and scene optimization.
• Strong understanding of rendering technologies such as:
  • Arnold
  • Karma
  • RenderMan
  • Or equivalent production renderers
• Strong portfolio or demo reel demonstrating high-quality photorealistic lighting.
• Good understanding of the complete 3D/VFX pipeline.
• Knowledge of:
