Are you a creator who lives and breathes the Roblox ecosystem? Do you understand the nuances of R6 vs. R15 rigs, the importance of “game feel,” and how to breathe life into blocky characters through expressive motion? We are looking for a highly creative and technical Animator Intern to join our game development team in Singapore.
In this role, you won’t just be “making moves”—you will be defining the physical language of our virtual worlds. From the weight of a pickaxe swing to the fluidity of a double jump, your work will be the primary way players interact with and experience our games. You will work at the intersection of Game Design and Visual Art, ensuring that every animation is not only beautiful but also responsive and performant within the Roblox engine.

The Mission: Defining the Player Experience
Animation in the context of Roblox is a unique challenge. Unlike cinematic animation, game animation requires a deep understanding of latency, state machines, and player feedback. When a player presses “Attack,” the animation must trigger instantly, provide a clear “hit frame,” and recover in a way that feels fair.
As an intern, you will be mentored by senior developers to master the Roblox Pipeline. You will learn how to balance visual fidelity with the performance constraints of a platform that runs on everything from high-end PCs to budget smartphones. Your goal is to create “juice”—that extra layer of polish that makes a game feel professional, satisfying, and addictive.
Core Responsibilities
Your internship will be divided into three key areas of focus: Animation, 3D Asset Creation, and Technical Implementation.
1. Original Gameplay Animation
You will be responsible for creating the “bread and butter” animations that define gameplay.
- Locomotion: Creating custom walk, run, idle, and jump cycles that fit the specific theme of the game (e.g., a heavy armored knight vs. a nimble ninja).
- Combat & Interaction: Designing high-impact animations for melee swings, spell casting, mining, and gathering.
- Item Usage: Animating how characters hold and use various props, from potions and scrolls to futuristic gadgets.
- Visual Clarity: Ensuring that every move is “readable.” In a fast-paced game, players must be able to tell what an NPC or another player is doing at a glance.
2. 3D Modeling & Environment Design
We believe in well-rounded creators. While your focus is animation, you will also contribute to the world-building process.
- Prop Creation: Building stylized 3D models for tools, weapons, and interactive items.
- Environment Assets: Contributing to the visual landscape by modeling structures, foliage, and decorative elements.
- Optimization: Ensuring all models have clean topology and are optimized for the Roblox engine to prevent lag and high memory usage.
3. Iterative Design & Feedback
Game development is a team sport. You will participate in the full creative lifecycle.
- The Feedback Loop: You will present your work during weekly reviews and iterate based on feedback from Game Designers and Producers.
- Style Matching: You must be able to adapt your personal style to match the established aesthetic of our specific game projects.
- Problem Solving: If an animation looks “jittery” in-game, you will work to diagnose the issue—whether it’s a rigging error, a script conflict, or a frame-rate bottleneck.
Detailed Job Requirements
We are looking for candidates who are “platform-native”—people who understand why Roblox is a revolutionary medium for gaming.
Required Skills:
- Foundational Animation Knowledge: A strong understanding of the 12 Principles of Animation (Squash and Stretch, Anticipation, Staging, etc.) and how they apply to 3D characters.
- Modeling Proficiency: Ability to create 3D assets from scratch using industry-standard software like Blender or Maya.
- The “Game Design” Lens: The ability to think like a player. You don’t just care if the animation looks good; you care if it feels good when you’re playing.
- Communication: The ability to explain why you made a specific creative choice. (e.g., “I added a 3-frame anticipation here to make the hammer feel heavier.”)
- Portfolio: A link to a portfolio or video reel is mandatory. We want to see your best work in motion.
Bonus Points (The “Pluses”):
- Roblox Studio Expertise: If you already know your way around the Animation Editor, RigBuilder, and Task Scheduler, you’ll hit the ground running.
- Stylized Art Focus: Experience with “Low-Poly” or “Hand-Painted” aesthetics which are popular on the Roblox platform.
- Scripting Knowledge: Basic familiarity with Luau (Roblox’s coding language) is a massive advantage, as it helps you understand how animations are triggered by code.
- Active Community Member: If you have published your own experiences or participated in Game Jams, we want to hear about it!
A Deep Dive into the Roblox Pipeline
To give you an idea of what your first few weeks will look like, here is the workflow you will be immersed in:
Step 1: Concept & Rigging Before animating, we define the rig. You will work with R15 rigs (15 body parts) most often, ensuring that the motor joints are placed correctly for the desired range of motion.
Step 2: Keyframing Using Blender or the Roblox Animation Editor, you will set your keyframes. You’ll learn how to use Easings (Linear, Constant, Elastic, Bounce) to give your animations character.
Step 3: Exporting & FBX Management You will learn the technical hurdles of importing animations into Roblox, handling ID generation, and ensuring that the priority levels (Core, Idle, Movement, Action) are set correctly so animations don’t “fight” each other.
Step 4: Implementation You will work alongside programmers to see how your animation looks when triggered by a player’s input. This is where we adjust the “AnimationTrack:Play()” parameters, such as fade-in time and speed.
