We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented Render Wrangler to join our Madrid-based team. As the guardian of our render farm, you are the final bridge between our artistic vision and the delivered product. The Render Wrangler is the heartbeat of our technical operations. Your primary objective is to manage, monitor, and supervise the studio’s render farm, ensuring that thousands of frames flow seamlessly from our artists’ workstations to the final storage servers.

1. Queue Management & Prioritization

You aren’t just watching bars move across a screen; you are managing a complex ecosystem. Your tasks include:

• Strategic Monitoring: Keep a constant eye on render queues to ensure delivery priorities set by the production team are met.
• Flow Control: Manage the distribution of resources to ensure that high-priority “Hero” shots get the processing power they need without stalling other projects.
• Throughput Optimization: Identify and eliminate downtime or bottlenecks that could jeopardize tight deadlines.

2. Technical Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

When a render fails, you are the first responder.

• Error Detection: Proactively identify and communicate rendering errors to the relevant departments (Lighting, FX, or Comp).
• Root Cause Analysis: Investigate why a job failed—whether it’s a memory leak, a missing texture path, or a plugin conflict.
• Relaunch & Correction: Whenever possible, correct the source of the problem directly and relaunch the job to save valuable production time.

3. Farm Optimization & R&D Support

You will work closely with our Technical Directors to improve our infrastructure.

• Resource Auditing: Monitor how different departments use the farm and suggest optimizations to reduce render times.
• Pipeline Adherence: Ensure all jobs submitted to the farm follow the studio’s established pipeline protocols.

We are looking for a technical specialist who enjoys the “detective work” of VFX production.

• Software Expertise: Minimum of one year of experience managing a render farm using Thinkbox Deadline. You should be comfortable navigating the Deadline Monitor, Pulse, and Slave configurations.
• Pipeline Knowledge: A solid understanding of the 3D Animation pipeline. You should know how a 3D scene is assembled and what a “render layer” actually represents.
• Operational Independence: The ability to work autonomously. You will often be the sole person responsible for the farm’s health during peak delivery periods.
• Meticulous Attention to Detail: In this role, a 1% error rate can lead to hours of lost work. You must be precise and observant.
• Communication: Strong communication skills are essential. You must be able to explain technical failures to artists and production managers clearly and concisely.
• Language: Proficiency in Spanish and English to ensure smooth coordination with our international team.

1. Morning Handover: Review the logs from the overnight renders. Identify any major failures and alert the production leads before the artists arrive.
2. Peak-Hour Management: As artists submit shots throughout the day, you will balance the load on the farm, moving jobs up or down the priority list based on the day’s delivery targets.
3. Data Management: Coordinate with the IT and Storage teams to ensure the render farm isn’t hitting storage caps or bandwidth limits.
4. Artist Support: Assist artists who are having trouble submitting complex scenes to the farm, ensuring their settings are optimized for our hardware.
