Core Duties & Responsibilities
The selected artist will jump directly into our active production pipeline, executing tasks that combine artistic flair with rigid pipeline discipline. Your daily responsibilities will encompass:
1. Environment Painting & Visual Assets
Establish Atmosphere: Render high-quality background paintings that establish the mood, time of day, lighting schemes, and emotional tone specified by the episodic script and Art Director.
Maintain Style Continuity: Rigidly adhere to the established style guides, color scripts, and visual bibles of the television series, ensuring your output matches existing project assets seamlessly.
Asset Management: Organize, layer, and deliver digital background files according to strict studio naming conventions and technical specifications, facilitating an efficient handover to the compositing and animation teams.
2. Pipeline Synergy & Technical Execution
Layout Translation: Clean up, refine, and colorize raw layout line art, preserving the perspective, scaling, and camera angles established by the layout department.
Layering Mastery: Correctly separate background elements into multi-plane digital layers (foreground, midground, background, and specialized prop overlays) to accommodate complex camera pans, parallax effects, and character tracking.
Schedule Adherence: Work quickly and efficiently to hit tight, episodic television deadlines, maintaining a consistent output of completed backgrounds without sacrificing artistic quality.
3. Collaboration & Feedback
Iterative Design: Incorporate notes and critiques from the Art Director and episodic supervisors quickly, demonstrating a highly collaborative and receptive approach to creative direction.
Cross-Department Communication: Sync regularly with the layout and compositing teams to anticipate technical bottlenecks, clarify line-of-sight requirements, and ensure smooth asset integration.
Requirements & Qualifications
To qualify for an immediate start on this television pipeline, applicants must demonstrate a portfolio showing strong environmental rendering skills and an understanding of serialized animation workflows.
Minimum Qualifications:
TV Series Production Experience: Proven experience operating as a background paint artist within a professional 2D animation pipeline, specifically for episodic television series or feature-length projects.
Perspective & Composition Mastery: An exceptional command over linear and atmospheric perspective, architectural staging, prop placement, and dynamic composition rules.
Color Theory & Lighting Expertise: A deep understanding of digital color keys, value structures, global illumination, and how to use lighting to guide the viewer’s eye to core story zones.
Software Proficiency: Absolute mastery of industry-standard digital painting software, specifically Adobe Photoshop or Toon Boom Harmony, along with an understanding of non-destructive layer management.
Adaptability & Speed: The proven ability to rapidly match an established artistic style and maintain high productivity under fast-turnaround episodic television schedules.
Working Conditions & Contract Lifecycle
