Netflix Animation Studios (NAS) is dedicated to producing world-class, immersive animated features that resonate globally. We are seeking a Character Animator to join our Sydney-based team. This role requires a sophisticated understanding of performance-led animation, technical proficiency, and a collaborative spirit. The Role
As a Character Animator, you will be responsible for translating narrative beats into compelling, believable performances. You will work at the intersection of technical precision and creative expression, ensuring every frame aligns with the Director’s vision and the project’s stylistic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Performance & Narrative: Execute high-caliber character animation that conveys complex emotional depth, clear subtext, and narrative intent.
- Creative Collaboration: Partner with the Director and Animation Leadership to interpret and refine the creative vision, ensuring consistency across sequences.
- Production Excellence: Actively participate in dailies and reviews, providing and implementing constructive feedback to elevate the final output.
- Workflow Management: Maintain rigorous professional standards in time management and organization to meet production milestones within a fast-paced pipeline.
- Innovation: Adapt to proprietary workflows and contribute to the evolution of the studio’s technical and creative processes.
Professional Qualifications
- Experience: 2+ years of professional experience in Feature Animation, VFX, Television, or AAA Gaming.
- Technical Proficiency: Mastery of Autodesk Maya (or equivalent industry-standard software) and a deep understanding of physics, weight, and anatomy.
- Artistic Mastery: A robust portfolio demonstrating a command of animation principles, including pacing, appeal, continuity, and dialogue.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate creative choices and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Adaptability: A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous professional development.
Portfolio Requirements
- Duration: A curated showreel not exceeding 2 minutes.
- Focus: Must highlight sophisticated acting, emotional range, mechanical accuracy (weight/physics), and entertainment value.
