Our Team: The Architects of Atmosphere
The World Art team at Guerrilla Games is a dedicated group of creators committed to the craft of environmental composition. We work at the intersection of Art Direction and Technical Design, ensuring that every frame of the game world tells a story while supporting fluid, engaging gameplay.
Collaborative Vision
Guerrilla Games collaborate closely with the Concept Art team to translate 2D visions into 3D realities. We also work side-by-side with Level Designers to ensure that our environments are not only beautiful but functional for combat, exploration, and narrative beats.
Diverse Environmental Themes
During your time at Guerrilla, you will gain exposure to a staggering variety of biomes and structures:
- Natural Landscapes: Crafting everything from dry deserts and snowy peaks to vibrant, lush jungles.
- Human Settlements: Building rustic campsites, vibrant tribal hubs, and the stark remains of destroyed outposts.
- Ancient Remnants: Designing the crumbling ruins of the “Old World,” where nature has reclaimed towering skyscrapers and industrial complexes.
What You Will Do: Building the World
This internship is a hands-on journey through the AAA world-building pipeline. You will be integrated into our workflow, using the same professional tools and engines as our senior staff.
1. Asset Integration & Speedmodeling
You will learn to create and integrate speedmodel assets into our proprietary game engine. You will focus on building modular sets that are highly reusable and optimized for performance. Learning to work within a specific technical pipeline is a core skill you will develop here, ensuring your art meets the high requirements of a Sony-published title.
2. Environment Dressing
You will design and create detailed, reusable environments for world dressing. This involves placing assets to create a lived-in feel, managing the “visual noise,” and ensuring that the composition leads the player’s eye naturally through the space.
3. Gameplay & Combat Spaces
World Art isn’t just about aesthetics. You will work on unique environments with specific requirements for gameplay and combat. You will learn how to use cover, line-of-sight, and terrain height to create tactical arenas that are both challenging and visually stunning.
4. Troubleshooting & Collaboration
You will participate in daily reviews, playtesting sessions, and collaborative meetings. You will also assist the team in troubleshooting technical issues related to World Art, gaining a deep understanding of how to optimize assets for real-time rendering and zero-downtime environments.
