Guerrilla Games, a premier first-party studio for Sony Interactive Entertainment and the creative force behind the Horizon franchise, is looking for a creative, analytical, and visually-driven UI/UX Design Intern to join our team in Amsterdam. This is a rare opportunity to step into the heart of AAA game development and help shape how millions of players interact with our worlds.
At Guerrilla, the User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) team acts as the vital bridge between the player and the game. We believe that an interface should be more than just a menu; it should be a seamless, immersive extension of the game’s narrative and aesthetic. If you have a passion for player psychology, a love for sleek layouts, and a desire to see your designs come to life in the Decima engine, this is the internship for you.

The UI/UX Team: At the Heart of the Player Journey
The UI/UX team at Guerrilla Games is a multidisciplinary group that touches almost every aspect of development. We don’t work in a vacuum; we are the connectors. On any given day, we might be brainstorming with audio designers to ensure a HUD element sounds as satisfying as it looks, or collaborating with combat designers to ensure an interactable object is instantly recognizable in a heated machine encounter.
We leverage deep UX expertise to provide optimal flows and interactions using high-fidelity wireframes and prototypes. We then layer on a beautiful visual UI design that resonates with our audience through strong typography, intentional color palettes, and expressive motion design. We are a team that thrives on complexity and excels through radical collaboration.
What You Will Do: A 360-Degree Design Experience
As a UI/UX Design Intern, you will be fully integrated into the production cycle. You will grow both your technical design skills and your “soft skills”—learning how to navigate a massive studio environment while starting your journey in the games industry.
1. User Experience (UX) Design & Research
We apply a Player-Centered Design approach. You will learn to:
- Conduct focused research into specific player problems or menu patterns.
- Map out player journeys and create wireframes to validate solutions.
- Balance design decisions between player feedback, high-level Game Direction goals, and your own creative vision.
2. User Interface (UI) Design & Visual Craft
Once the UX foundation is set, you will learn to build the visual skin that makes it cohesive and readable:
- Master graphic design principles, including color theory, font selection, and digital painting.
- Ensure the UI fits perfectly within the established art direction of the game world.
- Design icons and buttons that are not only beautiful but functional and accessible.
3. Mastering the Decima Engine
You will work closely with our UI Code team—the engineers who turn our static designs into functional game elements.
- Learn how to export design assets correctly for a AAA pipeline.
- Write technical documentation for engineers to ensure the final implementation matches the vision.
- Depending on the project phase, you may get hands-on experience building interfaces directly within the Decima UI Editor.
4. UI Animation and Motion Design
Motion brings an interface to life. You will explore:
- Using animations to highlight key information or add “juice” to an interaction.
- Creating flipbooks and UI animations within the engine.
- Using tools like After Effects to prototype expressive and emotional motion layers.
Who You Are: Qualifications & Requirements
Guerrilla Games is looking for a hybrid talent—someone who understands that a button needs to look great, but also knows why it needs to be placed exactly where it is.
Mandatory Requirements for UI/UX Design Intern:
- Educational Enrollment: You must be currently enrolled in a Dutch school (HBO/University) in a relevant field (Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Game Design, or Psychology).
- Location: You must be able to work on-site in our Amsterdam studio and be within a reasonable commuting distance.
- Legal Status: You must be eligible to live and work in the Netherlands.
- Timing: You must be available for an internship starting in September 2026.
Your Professional Profile:
- Design Experience: You have a portfolio showcasing a foundational understanding of UI and/or UX Design.
- Aesthetic Eye: You have an affinity for graphic design, shape language, and layouts.
- Player Psychology: You are fascinated by how players think and what makes an interaction “feel right.”
- Platform Passion: You love games across any platform and are eager to learn how interfaces are developed for the AAA space.
- Curiosity: You have an “itch” for perfecting small interactions and a hunger to learn proprietary tools.
Guerrilla Games offers a vibrant, international environment where your unique perspective helps us create games that resonate with a global audience.
- Hands-On Experience: Work on some of the biggest titles in the industry.
- Mentorship: Learn from senior designers and leads who are invested in your professional growth.
- State-of-the-Art Studio: Our studio in the heart of Amsterdam is designed for collaboration and creativity.
- Inclusive Culture: We are an equal opportunity employer that embraces diversity and empowers employees to bring their whole selves to work.
