Position Summary at DNEG
The Animation Supervisor is a key leadership role responsible for maintaining DNEG’s reputation as a leader in live-action VFX and animation. Working closely with the Head of Animation, you will manage, mentor, and supervise the animation team, ensuring all creative output meets the highest standards and aligns with the Director’s vision.
Key Responsibilities
- Creative Leadership & Collaboration
- Creative Oversight: Collaborate with the Director and VFX Supervisors to develop character and creature performance, ensuring consistency and continuity across the entire show.
- Team Management: Manage and mentor the animation team, from Junior Animators to Leads, providing clear direction and delegating tasks effectively.
- Vision Keeper: Ensure the animation team understands and executes the Director’s creative vision for the project.
- Inter-Departmental Coordination
- Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for animation requests from other departments.
- Asset Suitability: Work with the Build team to ensure models are suitable for rigging.
- Rigging Advocate: Collaborate with the Rigging department to guarantee that the final rig meets the animators’ needs concerning control, functionality, usability, and performance.
- Pipeline & Process Improvement
- Vocal Input: Work closely with the R&D and Pipeline teams to evaluate and suggest improvements to DNEG’s animation pipeline.
- Quality Assurance: Actively contribute thoughts and suggestions that aid the delivery of high-quality animation efficiently.
Candidate Requirements
- Must Have Qualifications
- Experience: Over 10 years of CG experience, specifically working on high-profile live-action and full CG feature films.
- Technical Knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of the relevant technologies and processes in CG animation.
- Leadership: Proven experience in leading teams and the ability to delegate tasks effectively.
- Client Interaction: Experience working directly with clients and Directors, with the confidence to professionally submit and discuss creative ideas.
- Problem-Solving:
- Ability to perform visual and analytical problem-solving in 3D space.
- Ability to accurately interpret 3D layouts and analyze 3D form.
- Experience anticipating and solving potential problems that may arise during assigned tasks.

Workplace Flexibility & Location
This is a Permanent Staff Position.
DNEG values in-person connection and collaboration. Candidates must be available to work from the Sydney office at least two days per week (Hybrid Model). Relocation to Sydney is required for candidates not currently based locally.
