Your primary goal is to lead the Compositing Artists team to ensure every scene adheres to Illusorium’s world-class artistic and technical standards. This involves:

  • Workflow Integration: Seamlessly combining and integrating visual elements from the Lighting, Shading, and Render departments.
  • Scene Assignment: Strategically delegating tasks based on individual artist strengths, experience, and project deadlines.
  • Mentorship & Onboarding: Welcoming new talent into the Illusorium family, providing the tools and training they need to flourish in our pipeline.

2. Artistic Interpretation

You aren’t just a manager; you are a visionary. You will:

  • Translate Vision: Interpret complex notes and sketches from the VFX Supervisor, turning abstract ideas into actionable technical workflows.
  • Template Creation: Develop and maintain compositing templates that define the artistic style of each project, ensuring consistency across hundreds of shots.
  • Quality Control: Maintain an uncompromising eye for detail, ensuring the client’s artistic and technical requirements are not just met, but exceeded.

3. R&D and Innovation

Innovation is the lifeblood of Illusorium. You will be expected to:

  • Improve Procedures: Constantly look for ways to optimize internal procedures and R&D.
  • Troubleshooting: Solve high-level technical hurdles quickly to prevent production bottlenecks.

4. Hands-on Craft

You lead by example. While you manage the team, you will also take on “hero shots,” composing final scenes as an active artist on the floor.

What You Bring to the Table

We are looking for a candidate who is as comfortable in a spreadsheet or a team meeting as they are in the Nuke node graph.

  • Nuke Mastery: You should know Nuke inside and out. From deep compositing to complex projections and Gizmo creation, you are the person others come to when they get stuck.
  • Technical Pipeline Knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of the 3D Animation production cycle. You understand how a render layer is built and how to fix issues upstream.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of two years specifically in leadership or lead-level positions within 3D animation or VFX environments.
  • Communication: Fluent in both Spanish and English. You will be communicating with international clients and a diverse local team.
  • Soft Skills: High emotional intelligence, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to remain calm and decisive in a fast-paced production environment.

Detailed Responsibilities

The role of a Compositing Lead at Illusorium Studios is multifaceted. You are responsible for the aesthetic “glue” that binds a production together.

  1. Project Calibration: At the start of a project, you will work closely with the CG Supervisor to establish the “look” of the show. This involves setting up color space pipelines and master scripts that the rest of the team will use.
  2. Feedback Loops: You will conduct daily internal reviews, providing constructive feedback to artists to ensure the work is ready for the Supervisor and Client reviews.
  3. Cross-Departmental Collaboration: You will act as the liaison between Compositing and the Lighting/FX departments. If a render is missing a specific pass or a technical error is found in the EXR files, you are the one to identify and communicate the fix.
  4. Efficiency Upgrades: By staying updated on the latest Nuke plug-ins and AI-assisted compositing tools, you will help the studio maintain a competitive edge.
