Classy Crew is on the lookout for a proactive, technically-minded Unity Gameplay Programmer to become a cornerstone of our development team. We don’t just write code; we build experiences. Our focus is on premium PC titles—games that are playful, have a low barrier to entry, and are designed for high-replayability in short, punchy sessions.
In this role, you aren’t just a “coder” working in a vacuum. You are a Unity Developer in the truest sense—someone who understands how to leverage the full power of the engine, from ScriptableObjects and Prefabs to UI implementation and performance profiling. As our third programmer, you will be the most experienced technical voice on the team, reporting directly to the Studio Lead and playing a pivotal role in shaping our technical future.

About Classy Crew
Classy Crew a specialized studio dedicated to the art of “easy-to-learn, hard-to-forget” PC games. Our culture is built on transparency, proactive problem-solving, and a shared passion for the indie spirit. We operate in a fully remote, async-friendly environment that prizes output and ownership over “clocking hours.”
As a member of the Classy Crew, you aren’t just an employee; you are a partner in our creative process. We value “Generalist” mindsets—developers who can jump from refining a movement system to polishing a UI animation or debugging a complex save-state system without missing a beat.
The Mission: Your Technical Impact
Your mission is to bridge the gap between abstract game design and a high-performance reality. You will be responsible for building, extending, and polishing gameplay systems that feel as good as they function. Because our team is lean, your influence will be visible in every corner of the game, from the core mechanics to the final user interface polish.
The “Unity-First” Philosophy
We are looking for a developer who treats Unity as a complete development ecosystem. You should be as comfortable navigating the Universal Render Pipeline (URP) and the Animation window as you are writing clean, decoupled C# logic. We prioritize developers who write code that other humans can actually read and maintain.
Primary Responsibilities as Unity Gameplay Programmer
Gameplay & Systems Architecture
- Feature Implementation: Build gameplay features from scratch based on design documentation, ensuring they are scalable and modular.
- Codebase Stewardship: Inherit and extend existing codebases. You will be expected to read through current systems and implement features “the right way” rather than forcing quick hacks.
- C# Excellence: Write optimized, readable, and maintainable C# following industry best practices and design patterns.
- Asset Management: Create and maintain the infrastructure of the game via ScriptableObjects, prefabs, and reusable components.
UI & Polish
- Interface Implementation: Collaborate with design to bring UI layouts to life, ensuring responsiveness and high-quality animations.
- “Feel” Engineering: Regularly capture and test gameplay to ensure the “juice” is there—tweaking timings, camera shakes, and feedback loops until the experience feels perfect.
- Light VFX: While not a requirement, you will have the opportunity to collaborate on light VFX and particle systems to enhance the visual feedback of gameplay.
Optimization & Technical Health
- Profiling: Identify bottlenecks in the CPU or GPU using the Unity Profiler.
- Debugging: Systematically track down and resolve stability issues specific to Windows/PC environments.
- Documentation: Keep technical documentation clear so the rest of the team understands how to utilize the tools and systems you build.
What Success Looks Like
The 30-Day Mark: Integration
- You are fully set up in the Unity project and have committed your first several features or bug fixes.
- You understand our internal design philosophy and can navigate our codebase without getting lost.
- You have a solid grasp of our Kanban workflow and communication style.
The 60-Day Mark: Independence
- You are taking ownership of medium-sized features from concept to implementation.
- You are identifying technical debt or “needs” in the codebase and proposing solutions.
- You are helping guide the flow of the Kanban board, ensuring tickets are well-defined.
The 90-Day Mark: Ownership
- You are a “pillar” of the programming team, acting as a reliable source of technical truth.
- You are pro-actively suggesting new ways to improve the game’s performance or fun factor.
- You are demonstrating a clear path toward a Senior/Lead role as the studio continues to scale.
Candidate Requirements for Unity Gameplay Programmer
The Essentials (Must-Haves)
- PC Development Pedigree: Strong hands-on experience developing and shipping (or nearing ship) titles for PC/Windows. (Note: Mobile-only experience does not qualify for this role).
- Code Literacy: The ability to jump into an existing project and improve it, rather than wanting to “rewrite everything.”
- Generalist Mindset: You enjoy working across the entire engine, from code to UI and basic materials.
- Workflow Proficiency: Experience working in Agile or Kanban environments (Jira, Trello, etc.).
- Portfolio: A demonstrable history of projects—be they professional releases, game jam entries, or highly polished personal prototypes.
The “Classy” Pluses (Nice-to-Haves)
- Visual Tech: Experience with Shaders (Shader Graph), VFX Graph, or particle effects.
- Network Savvy: Foundational knowledge of multiplayer or networking concepts.
- Platform Diversity: Exposure to Linux development.
- Creative Secondary Skills: Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, or video editing.
We believe that a happy, well-rested crew makes better games.
- Work-Life Harmony: 100% remote and async-friendly. We focus on results, not the clock.
- Monthly Game Night: We’ll buy you a new game and cover your takeout while you play it.
- Yearly Team Retreat: A fully covered trip to meet the team in person and bond over our shared goals.
- Equipment Budget: We provide a budget for you to upgrade your home office—monitors, chairs, or hardware.
- Professional Growth: A dedicated fund for courses, books, and conferences to help you transition into a Senior role.
