Senior UI Artist job at Climax Studios, 2026

Climax Studios is seeking an experienced, meticulous, and deeply passionate Senior UI Artist to help MPG and Climax Studios deliver flawless, player-centric Game User Interfaces to our prestigious lineup of global clients. In this role, you will act as a premier visual craftsman and user experience strategist, ensuring that every interface element we deliver is structurally sound, stylistically breathtaking, and technically optimized.

Are you an individual who is deeply obsessed with seamless design choices, the exact color theory of an interactive button, or its pixel-perfect layout positioning on a crowded screen? Do you naturally observe font pairings, typographic alignment, and kerning imbalances everywhere you look? Do you get a distinct creative thrill out of solving the structural frustrations of poorly designed user flows? If you possess an organic eye for these critical micro-details, backed by a sophisticated understanding of technical execution, this role offers the perfect global stage for your talents.

Operating from a fully remote location within the UK or the EU, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional game designers, concept artists, software engineers, and production leads across both studios. Your core goal will be to design world-class interactive systems that elevate client projects while continuously driving internal benchmarks for visual quality, technical optimization, and design service.

Key Responsibilities as UI Artist

As a Senior UI Artist, your daily operations will balance high-end graphic design production with cross-disciplinary leadership, client communication, and technical workflow engineering:

1. Visual Layout, UX Ideation & Prototyping

  • Immersive Interface Design: Craft professional UI experiences from structural concept to final pixel-perfect execution, prioritizing visual layout hierarchy and intuitive UX pathways.
  • Play-Test Coordination: Organize, audit, and systematically review internal and external play-tests of user interface prototypes to isolate friction points before deployment.
  • Interactive Flow Iteration: Build and iterate upon interactive, playable game flows, allowing stakeholders and publishers to feel the tactile responsiveness of the UI before initiating expensive engineering implementation.
  • Motion Graphics Mock-ups: Design fluid motion graphic mock-ups and animated transitions to clearly illustrate complex state changes, menu behaviors, and micro-interactions to engineering teams.

2. Strategy, Benchmarking & Documentation

  • Setting Visual Standards: Lead by example by creating elite style guides, comprehensive UI design bibles, and structured approval frameworks that establish the quality benchmark for the project.
  • High-Level Documentation: Author and present explicit technical and artistic documentation outlining UI systems, layout rules, color profiles, and asset delivery pipelines.
  • Future-Proofing Workflows: Keep an active eye on the horizon—consistently researching, evaluating, and proposing emerging software, practices, and layout trends to keep our studios at the cutting edge of interface design.

3. Cross-Discipline Collaboration & Client Relations

  • Cross-Functional Syncs: Partner intimately with Game Designers to translate game mechanics into accessible front-end flows, and with Engineers to ensure art assets compile flawlessly within target engines.
  • Subject Matter Advocacy: Act as a studio-wide advocate for outstanding user interface design, actively sharing specialized knowledge, giving constructive design lectures, and refining internal production processes.
  • Stakeholder Management: Directly communicate with client stakeholders to extract complex project requirements, balance competing creative briefs, and present authoritative, strategic solutions.
  • Project Tracking Reporting: Provide meticulous task estimation, project tracking updates, and risk assessment workflows using production tools like Jira for both internal management and client review.

Requirements & Qualifications for Senior UI Artist

We are seeking a visually versatile and organized professional who possesses a rigorous balance of artistic theory and engineering literacy:

Core Technical Profile

  • Stylistic Range: A deeply diverse portfolio showcasing the ability to seamlessly pivot between radically different visual aesthetics—from gritty, minimalist shooter HUDs to high-fantasy, ornate meta-game menus.
  • Graphic Design Foundations: Exceptional mastery of core art theory, including advanced spatial composition, typography, iconography design, color theory, and visual weight distribution.
  • UI/UX Theory & Terminology: Deep, practical knowledge of modern user interface principles, accessibility standards (such as colorblind configurations and text scaling), responsive design paradigms, and standard nomenclature.
  • Software & Tool Stack: Expert-level proficiency with standard interface design platforms and digital content creation tools, specifically Figma, Adobe Photoshop, and Unreal Engine (UMG tracking and widget assemblies).

Workflow & Leadership Competencies

  • Pipeline Literacy: A profound understanding of the distinct roles, daily workflows, and technical dependencies within an agile UI art department, including how the team effectively supports the broader engineering and design ecosystem.
  • Communication Articulation: Exceptional verbal, visual, and written communication skills. You must be completely comfortable verbalizing complex, conceptual design thoughts and explicitly open to giving and receiving rigorous, constructive critique.
  • Production Discipline: Superior organizational skills with a proven track record of managing personal assets, naming conventions, layered source files, and task tickets within production suites like Jira.

Highly Desirable Assets (What Would Help)

  • Previous professional experience operating in a Senior UI or Senior UX capacity within a AA or AAA game development pipeline.
  • Direct, proven experience handling communication and design reviews with high-profile external clients.
  • Strong hands-on experience handling initial UI concept art, wireframing layouts, and interactive white-box testing.
