Position Overview
Beffio studio is seeking a visionary, highly accomplished Senior / Director VFX Artist who combines elite artistic sensibilities with extensive, hands-on production experience to join our global 3D Art Department. Operating in a permanent, fully remote infrastructure across Europe, you will spearhead the creation of high-impact, gameplay-driven real-time visual effects for an ambitious slate of stylized AA and AAA titles built inside the Unity3D engine.
This hybrid position is uniquely designed for a seasoned professional who thrives at the intersection of creative direction, client-side relationship management, and elite technical execution. In this role, you will not simply manage from afar; you will remain a core, hands-on contributor in production, sculpting hero-level effects while simultaneously serving as our studio’s primary VFX representative to external client leadership, including client-side Art Directors and VFX Leads.
If you are a veteran visual effects artist who excels at translating high-level narrative concepts into snappy, stylized, and perfectly optimized real-time physics and particle networks, this role offers unparalleled creative autonomy, massive systemic influence, and a seat at the table with some of the industry’s most respected creators. Remote jobs.
Comprehensive Role Responsibilities as VFX Artist
Your daily duties cut across three key pillars: external stakeholder alignment, hands-on asset creation within Unity, and the technical architecture of studio-wide performance benchmarks. Remote jobs.
1. Client Collaboration, Direction & Strategic Alignment
- Primary VFX Representative: Act as the definitive, studio-side point of contact for all real-time visual effects pipelines, leading technical syncs and creative workshops with our external client partners.
- Artistic Translation: Partner closely with client-side Art Directors and external VFX Leads to break down high-level style guides, concept art plates, and narrative prompts, transforming subjective feedback into clear, production-ready visual parameters.
- Quality & Consistency Ownership: Maintain the macro-level visual continuity, artistic cadence, and quality thresholds of all VFX Artist assets across the project lifetime, ensuring our internal output flawlessly reflects external creative intent
2. High-Impact Stylized Real-Time VFX Creation
- Gameplay-Driven Effects: Design, author, and deploy world-class stylized real-time effects for high-frequency combat mechanics, environmental environmental storytelling, localized status anomalies, and dramatic cinematic beats.
- Readability & Timing Mastery: Prioritize flawless gameplay readability, utilizing strong shape language, sharp timing arcs, value contrast, and deliberate exaggeration to guarantee that effects reward player inputs instantly without cluttering the competitive field of view.
- Stylized Technique Innovations: Pioneer diverse non-photorealistic rendering (NPR) approaches, utilizing custom flipbook loops, texture-driven vector fields, procedural noise profiles, and math-driven vertex manipulation to establish unique visual identities.
3. Unity3D Engine Integration & Technical Implementation
- Advanced Toolkit Utilization: Author and configure modular, highly scalable effect templates directly within the Unity3D architecture using VFX Graph, Shader Graph, and legacy particle systems where applicable.
- In-Engine Behavior Tuning: Tinker with and debug effect networks directly inside active gameplay branches, adjusting lifetime values, emission rates, scale-over-time curves, and multi-layered blend profiles to match design pacing.
- Systemic Interactivity: Ensure all real-time effects link smoothly with engine physics volumes, collision states, custom script triggers, layout prefabs, and real-time audio components.
4. Optimization, Resource Management & Mentorship
- Mobile & Runtime Profiling: Adapt and prune intricate particle networks to pass the rigid hardware budgets of multi-platform ecosystems, including mobile devices and hybrid systems. Actively profile and mitigate overdraw spikes, fill-rate caps, memory footprints, and heavy draw calls.
- Pipeline Standardization: Author, curate, and distribute comprehensive studio guidelines specifying technical optimization limits, custom shader architectures, unified asset naming schemas, and texture channel packing layouts.
- Internal Coaching: Provide clear technical direction, constructive paintovers, and structured workflow reviews to peer artists within the 3D Art Department, fostering a culture of continuous learning and experimentation.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
Industry Experience & Shipped Pedigree
- Professional Longevity: A minimum of 5+ years of verified professional experience operating as a dedicated real-time game VFX artist.
- Leadership Background: Demonstrated experience holding Senior, Lead, or Director-level responsibilities on shipped or substantially advanced AA/AAA game developments.
- Elite Showreel: A highly technical, artistically pristine VFX reel showcasing a diverse selection of real-time, stylized game effects. The reel must clearly illustrate your mastery of motion arcs, weight distribution, color theory, stylized explosions/impacts, structural readability, and engine implementation.
Technical & Art Toolkit Mastery
- Unity Architecture Fluency: Expert-level, autonomous command of Unity3D’s internal art tools, with explicit mastery over VFX Graph, Shader Graph, and underlying material rendering paths.
- DCC Creation Competencies: Advanced proficiency in utility creation platforms such as SideFX Houdini (for simulation baking), Adobe Photoshop (for custom alpha generation), and related texture-authoring tools.
- Aesthetic Sensibility: An extraordinary understanding of timing principles, kinetic motion, hue harmonies, and exaggerated silhouette construction tailored specifically for stylized properties.
Communication & Location Criteria
- Stakeholder Management: Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a proven history of communicating technical requirements or creative direction cleanly to high-level external clients and interdisciplinary developers.
- Linguistic Fluency: Complete professional proficiency in both written and spoken English.
- EU Workspace Parameters: Must reside and operate within an EU member nation (or hold an independent, pre-existing EU work authorization framework) and actively synchronize with our regional production timelines.
Bonus Skills & Desirable Attributes
While not strictly required, candidates who present any of the following additional competencies will stand out distinctly during our vetting process:
- Hands-on experience scaling and compressing highly technical visual effects specifically targeted for heavy mobile optimization or standalone VR frame rates.
- Advanced proficiency in developing custom tools, simulation graphs, and flipbook automation networks inside SideFX Houdini.
- Basic to intermediate script compilation knowledge (C#) to program customized gameplay triggers or asset utilities directly within Unity.
- Deep, historical familiarity or academic focus on non-photorealistic animation styles, traditional cell animation mechanics, or anime-inflected visual signatures.
- Proven long-term success managing technical pipelines across distributed, fully decentralized multi-regional art houses.
What We Offer
- Ambition & Artistic Freedom: Direct influence over the aesthetic landscape of premium stylized AA and AAA titles that place a premium on strong artistic identity and stylistic experimentation.
- Flexible Corporate Foundation: A stable, long-term full-time career path within a financially secure studio. We respect individual fiscal and geographic requirements by offering flexible billing arrangements, including premium B2B contract structures or standardized localized employment contracts.
- Direct Pipeline Agency: A high-trust, low-bureaucracy production workspace where your choices directly select future tool integration, shading standards, pipeline scripts, and asset creation methods.
- Respectful Remote Infrastructure: A mature remote-first workplace culture that respects your personal time. By focusing our live interaction meetings into a consolidated mid-day window, we leave your mornings and afternoons entirely free for uninterrupted, focused deep-work and creation.
- Comprehensive Compensation: Highly competitive salary tiers tailored to your explicit level of industry leadership, combined with guaranteed paid vacation allotments to preserve your creative spark.
- Annual Studio Retreats: Fully covered annual team retreats designed to bring our European development teams together in person for structural alignment forums, masterclass learning workshops, and genuine human connection.
