The Role as Senior Gameplay Animator ::
As our Senior Gameplay Animator 3D , you will become a foundational pillar of our animation department. You will play a definitive, hands-on role in crafting highly immersive, realistic third-person gameplay animations that directly enhance the player experience and bolster our core tactical gameplay systems.
This position sits at the vital intersection of raw artistic performance and advanced engine implementation. You are not just an artist working in a vacuum; you are a holistic game developer. Working in close alignment with animators, game designers, gameplay programmers, and technical artists, you will actively shape our macro animation vision. Furthermore, you will serve as an essential mentor to the team, establishing robust pipelines and ensuring our character movement feels incredibly grounded, highly responsive, and intensely believable. Through the dual utilization of cutting-edge motion capture data and precision keyframe animation, you will breathe life into the tactical mechanics that our players expect.
Key Responsibilities
1. Animation Creation & Polish
- High-Fidelity Authoring: Create exceptional gameplay animations that establish realistic, weighted, and satisfying player movement, intense combat sequences, weapon handling, and environmental interactions.
- Grounded Realism: Ensure all character performances adhere stringently to the established visual tone and uncompromising tactical realism of Ready or Not.
- Iteration & Quality Control: Drive the overarching quality of animation assets through proactive iteration loops, integrating playtesting feedback and continuous micro-polishing to achieve AAA-level results.
2. Technical Integration & Engine Implementation
- Unreal Engine 5 Execution: Implement, tune, and systematically troubleshoot animation assets inside Unreal Engine 5.
- System Mastery: Build and maintain intricate logic using engine-native animation tools, including Animation Blueprints (AnimBlueprints), complex state machines, animation montages, and Sequencer.
- Cross-Discipline Collaboration: Partner intimately with programmers, tech artists, and designers to ensure that visual data translates flawlessly to input responsiveness, ensuring the game “feels” perfect to play.
3. Pipeline, Workflow, & Mentorship
- Workflow Optimization: Help establish, refine, and document studio-wide animation pipelines, modern workflows, and production best practices to maximize team efficiency and stylistic consistency.
- Team Mentorship: Provide active technical and artistic mentorship to junior and intermediate animators. Offer constructive feedback, share industry knowledge, and foster collaborative problem-solving across the remote team.
- Cross-Department Synergy: Coordinate closely with technical disciplines to conquer complex gameplay animation challenges, maintaining a perfect equilibrium between pristine visual fidelity and rigid engine performance constraints.
4. Motion Capture & Industry Innovation
- Mocap Pipeline Management: Work extensively with raw motion capture data, executing high-level cleanup, detailed character refinement, and tactical adaptation for seamless integration into real-time systems.
- Shoot Participation: Actively participate in, prepare for, and guide motion capture recording shoots as project requirements dictate.
- R&D Innovation: Stay thoroughly up to date with contemporary industry trends, emerging digital tools, and advanced animation techniques to consistently push our studio’s technological and artistic envelope forward.
What You’ll Bring to the Team
Mandatory Requirements ::
- Proven Track Record: A mandatory minimum of 5+ years of professional experience working specifically as a Gameplay Animator on successfully shipped titles featuring realistic art styles and movement.
- Elite Portfolio: A comprehensive, highly professional showreel or portfolio that clearly demonstrates realistic gameplay animation. Your work should explicitly highlight high-fidelity combat mechanics, locomotion trees, and tactical or military-style movement systems.
- Software Expertise: Master-level, expert proficiency inside Autodesk Maya and MotionBuilder.
- Engine Fluency: Mandatory, deeply practical experience working within Unreal Engine 5, demonstrating a commanding grasp of how to import, configure, and refine real-time animation nodes and systems.
- Core Fundamentals: An advanced, instinctual understanding of classical animation fundamentals, including biological weight, complex timing, physical body mechanics, and authentic human motion.
- Hybrid Workflow Mastery: Deep, demonstrable experience balancing and executing both high-end keyframe animation and extensive motion capture cleaning/retargeting pipelines.
- Systemic Knowledge: A thorough comprehension of technical gameplay animation architecture, including runtime blending, state machine transitions, layered animations, and input responsiveness.
- Remote Autonomy: The proven ability to communicate clearly, document work transparently, and collaborate highly effectively across multiple time zones within a fully remote game development ecosystem.
Bonus Points (Desirable Skills) ::
While not strictly mandatory, your application will stand out significantly if you possess:
- Direct professional experience working on hyper-realistic tactical shooters or military simulation games.
- Prior experience acting as an animation discipline lead, supervisor, or dedicated mentor.
- Familiarity with advanced engine scripting (Blueprints/C++) and next-generation animation subsystems within Unreal Engine 5.
- Hands-on experience with technical animation domains, such as character rigging, skinning, or tool creation.
- Advanced technical knowledge of contemporary procedural animation techniques, runtime Inverse Kinematics (IK) systems, physics-based ragdoll/animation blending, or Motion Matching frameworks.
