Patriam Studios is offering an exceptional opportunity for local creators looking for high-quality new zealand jobs in game development. As our Junior Environment Artist, you will be tasked with creating stylistic, medieval-inspired architecture, atmospheric props, and detailed objects that ground the narrative of Patriam: Saga of Roljar. Working entirely from home under the guidance of senior art leads, you will build modular structural assets and execute thoughtful set dressing to turn empty digital landscapes into living, breathing historical environments.
Core Responsibilities & Technical Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- 3D Asset Modeling: Design, model, and sculpt a diverse range of medieval-inspired assets, including fortified architecture, simple domestic ruins, foliage, and internal props.
- Modular Workflows: Develop and implement optimized modular building kits (walls, roofs, pillars) to efficiently build varied structures without sacrificing performance.
- Set Dressing & Layout: Arrange props, decals, and structures within the game engine to create compelling compositions, clear gameplay paths, and visual storytelling.
- PBR Texturing & Optimization: Apply high-quality textures that capture the weathered, rugged nature of historical settings while maintaining strict texel density and budget limits.
Technical Requirements:
- DCC Proficiency: Solid foundational skills in 3D packages such as Maya or Blender for hard-surface and architectural modeling.
- Sculpting & Texturing: Experience using ZBrush for organic stone/wood detailing, alongside the Substance Suite for PBR material application.
- Engine Integration: Basic familiarity with asset importing, collision setup, and scene assembly within modern game engines (Unreal Engine or Unity).
- Portfolio Presentation: A dedicated portfolio showcasing environment art, including asset breakdowns, wireframes, and examples of complete structural layouts.
Working with Our Team
Remote Flexibility, Local Connection:
While our workflow is 100% remote, allowing you to craft a balanced work-from-home environment, this position is strictly open to talent residing within New Zealand. This localization ensures seamless communication across identical working hours and helps grow the domestic game development industry.
What We Offer:
- Structured Industry Mentorship: Learn professional asset naming conventions, pipeline optimization, and scene composition directly from seasoned industry veterans.
- Industry-Standard Compensation: This junior role features a competitive entry-level salary matching New Zealand market standards (typically NZD $55,000 – $70,000 for full-time artistic paths).
- Creative Autonomy: A supportive studio space where your design ideas contribute directly to the visual footprint of a brand-new game universe.
