Double Eleven provides a highly competitive compensation structure designed to attract and retain top-tier creative talent in the UK market.
The Role: Visualizing the Extraordinary
As a Concept Artist, you are the first point of contact for a game’s soul. You will play a crucial role in the early visual development phases of our projects, transforming abstract ideas and written briefs into stunning, high-fidelity visuals. You will work in close proximity to our Art Directors and 3D Production teams to ensure that every character, prop, and environment is not only beautiful but functional for a 3D pipeline.
We are looking for an artist who possesses a deep passion for storytelling through design. Whether you are sketching a rugged protagonist, a biomechanical creature, or a sprawling sci-fi vista, your work will set the tone, mood, and aesthetic foundation for millions of players worldwide.
Core Responsibilities
1. Visual Development & Design
Character & Creature Design: Create inspiring, believable character and creature concepts that convey personality and narrative depth.
Prop & Environment Design: Support world-building by designing detailed props and complex environments, utilizing paintovers to guide the 3D team.
Mood & Tone: Develop comprehensive mood boards and visual reference sheets to support and defend design decisions during the pre-production phase.
2. Iteration & Collaboration
Rapid Prototyping: Use sketches, thumbnails, and quick design explorations to experiment with multiple visual directions before committing to final renders.
Feedback Integration: Work closely with the Art Director to iterate on concepts based on constructive feedback, ensuring the project’s vision is consistently met.
3D Synergy: Maintain a proactive relationship with 3D artists to ensure 2D concepts translate effectively into game-ready 3D assets, addressing technical constraints early.
3. Team & Workflow Contribution
Mentorship & Support: Contribute to a positive, approachable team presence by providing feedback and artistic support to fellow team members.
Time Management: Operate with a self-sufficient and proactive work style, managing deadlines effectively across multiple project streams.
Documentation: Create clear call-outs and orthographic views for production artists to follow during the asset creation phase.
Qualifications & Skills
Elite Portfolio: A strong, professional portfolio/showreel is mandatory. We are looking for demonstrated excellence in character, creature, and prop design.
Technical Mastery: Expert proficiency in Adobe Photoshop. Working knowledge of 3D software (Blender, Maya, or similar) is required to assist in block-outs and perspective accuracy.
Fundamental Art Skills: A solid understanding of human and animal anatomy, color theory, lighting, composition, and shape language.
Design Thinking: The ability to solve creative problems and overcome challenges when translating high-level concepts into actionable production art.
Communication: Strong verbal and visual communication skills, with the ability to articulate the “why” behind your creative choices.
