Job Summary

The Rigging Artist at AfterZ VFX Studio serves as a foundational pillar in our character pipeline. In this role, you will be responsible for creating sophisticated, production-ready rigs for a diverse range of characters and creatures. You will work closely with our modeling and animation teams to ensure that all assets meet strict technical requirements while providing animators with the intuitive control systems necessary to achieve high-quality, expressive performances.

From skinning and weight painting to developing complex deformation setups, your work will directly impact the believability of our digital assets. This is an ideal role for a detail-oriented artist who enjoys troubleshooting technical hurdles, optimizing workflows, and contributing to the creative vision of major VFX productions.

Key Responsibilities

Your contributions will be essential to the success of our projects. Your daily responsibilities will include:

• Rigging Execution: Designing and implementing robust, advanced character and creature rigs that support complex motion and realistic performances.

• Pipeline Development: Building and maintaining reusable rigging tools and systems to streamline production pipelines and ensure consistency across multiple projects.

• Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partnering with modelers to establish topology standards and working alongside animators to ensure rigs are balanced, efficient, and user-friendly.

• Production Support: Providing ongoing support to the animation team, including troubleshooting technical issues, refining deformation behavior, and performing last-minute rig adjustments during production.

• Quality Assurance: Maintaining a high standard of visual fidelity by ensuring skinning, weight painting, and joint placement are accurate for all assets.

Professional Requirements

To excel in this role, you should possess a blend of technical aptitude and artistic precision. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

• Professional Experience: Proven track record working as a Rigging Artist within the VFX or animation industry.
• Software Expertise: Mastery of Maya or Blender for character rigging and animation workflows.
• Technical Proficiency: A deep understanding of human and creature anatomy, along with a mastery of deformation, kinematics, and constraints.
• Creative Problem Solving: The ability to work independently to solve complex rigging challenges while adhering to production schedules.
• Bonus Skills: We highly value candidates with experience in Python scripting to automate rigging tasks, as well as those skilled in cloth and hair simulation and complex facial rigging.
