Role Overview The Technical Operations Assistant reports directly to the Head of Technical Operations. This is a fast-paced, high-responsibility role that sits at the intersection of Production and Post-Production. You are responsible for the technical integrity of every frame that leaves the studio. From quality checking (QC) high-end broadcast commercials to managing the complex data lifecycle of a VFX project, your work ensures the studio operates smoothly and maintains its reputation for excellence. This role is ideal for a technically-minded individual who is eager to learn the nuances of the VFX pipeline and eventually transition into specialized roles like 2D Compositing or Colour Mastery. Quality Control & Delivery Broadcast Integrity: Perform rigorous Quality Control (QC) on TV and Social Media campaigns to ensure they meet strict UK and international broadcast specifications. Technical Playout: Handle playout deliveries to exact specifications, ensuring that codecs, bitrates, and metadata are perfectly aligned with platform requirements. Audio Assessment: Conduct Audio QC to ensure levels and synchronization are flawless before final delivery. Rapid Turnaround: Manage quick-turnaround client approval file uploads, ensuring high-speed delivery without compromising quality. B. Data & Asset Management Lifecycle Management: Oversee the data management process, including restoring assets from nearline storage and archiving completed projects to ensure long-term data security. Pipeline Hygiene: Perform “Jobs path clean up” to maintain an organized and efficient server environment for artists and producers. Logging: Maintain accurate logs of digital master media content, ensuring every version is tracked and accessible. C. Artist & Production Support Asset Prep: Prepare files and artwork for 2D artists to ensure they can begin their creative work without technical delays. Artwork Handling: Use the Adobe Suite (specifically Photoshop) to prepare artwork, crops, and various formats for the creative team. Troubleshooting: Act as the first line of defense for day-to-day technical issues, providing creative and efficient solutions to keep the pipeline moving. Professional Requirements (About You) We are looking for someone who is inherently curious, technically sharp, and incredibly detail-oriented. Technical Knowledge: Specifications: A solid understanding of UK broadcast specification deliveries (e.g., DPP, AQC). Regulatory Familiarity: A basic understanding of Clearcast guidelines for advertising standards. VFX Ecosystem: Strong working knowledge of VFX software and how assets move through a 2D/3D pipeline. Codecs & Formats: An expert-level understanding of file formats (EXR, MOV, MXF), codecs (ProRes, DNxHR, H.264), aspect ratios, and pixel aspect ratios. Software Stack: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop) and various transcoding software (e.g., Media Encoder, ContentAgent, or similar). Soft Skills: Problem Solver: You enjoy the “puzzle” of troubleshooting and can stay calm under the pressure of tight deadlines.
