At Avalanche Studios Group, we are famous for “Worlds Beyond Limits.” Whether it is the sheer chaos of Just Cause, the atmospheric precision of theHunter: Call of the Wild, or the grit of Mad Max, our technical foundations must be as expansive as our imagination.

We have recently completed a successful prototyping phase for a new, ambitious project. The “fun” has been found; the core mechanics are proven. Now, we need a Technical Director who can take these raw ideas and transform them into a production-hardened architecture. You are the bridge between the “hacky” brilliance of a prototype and the rigorous stability of a global AAA launch.

Build the Architectural Foundation

The transition from prototype to pre-production is the most critical phase in a game’s lifecycle. You will:

  • Deconstruct the prototype to identify what is scalable and what needs a complete rewrite.
  • Define the core technical architecture, ensuring it supports long-term growth and high-performance execution.
  • Establish coding standards and best practices that will be followed by the engineering team for years to come.

Lead the Engineering Transition

Moving a team from a mindset of “experimentation” to “production” requires steady leadership.

  • Balance the need for rapid iteration with the necessity of long-term code health.
  • Identify technical debt early and create a roadmap to mitigate risks before they impact the schedule.
  • Implement robust tools and CI/CD pipelines that empower the entire development team.

Unreal Engine Stewardship

As a specialized Unreal Engine project, you will be the ultimate authority on the engine’s capabilities.

  • Oversee core systems, including physics, rendering pipelines, and multiplayer networking.
  • Ensure multiplayer stability is “baked in” from the start, rather than added as an afterthought.
  • Optimize performance for target platforms, ensuring a seamless experience for players worldwide.

Strategic Roadmap & Collaboration

You aren’t just a coder; you are a strategist.

  • Own the technical roadmap, aligning engineering sprints with creative milestones and go-to-market deadlines.
  • Partner with the Art, Design, and Production Directors to evaluate the feasibility of “impossible” ideas.
  • Provide clear, concise technical risk assessments to non-technical stakeholders and studio leadership.

Mentorship and Culture

We believe in a culture of technical excellence.

  • Lead a dedicated team of engineers, providing mentorship and career development.
  • Foster an environment of proactive problem-solving where collaboration is the default mode.
  • Act as a talent magnet, helping to interview and hire the next generation of Avalanchers.

We are looking for a veteran who has “seen it all” but remains hungry for the next big challenge.

  • The Full Lifecycle Veteran: You have taken at least one major title from the very first line of code all the way through a successful global launch. You understand the “crunch” points and how to avoid them through better planning.
  • The Unreal Expert: You don’t just use Unreal; you understand its guts. You know how to structure large-scale projects for maximum maintainability and performance.
  • The Multiplayer Specialist: You have shipped multiplayer titles and understand the unique challenges of replication, latency, and server-side authority.
  • The Pragmatic Architect: You appreciate the beauty of a quick hack during a game jam, but you thrive on bringing order to chaos. You know exactly when to prototype and when to build a permanent system.
  • The Master Communicator: You can discuss low-level memory management with a Senior Engineer in the morning and explain the implications of a specific feature to the Marketing Director in the afternoon.

Our Stockholm office is more than just a workplace; it’s an immersion into our creative DNA. Located in Södermalm—the heart of the Swedish gaming scene—the office design reflects our portfolio: a mix of lush jungle greenery and rugged, industrial metal.

The Hybrid Model: We believe that magic happens when people are in the same room. To foster this, our team gathers in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. These days are dedicated to high-bandwidth collaboration, creative brainstorming, and social connection. Wednesdays and Fridays offer the flexibility to work from home, allowing for focused, uninterrupted deep work.

  • System Design: Experience designing scalable systems for AI, physics, or rendering.
  • Network Architecture: Familiarity with client-server models, matchmaking, and online services.
