The Mission: Leading the Player Experience

As the UI/UX Lead Designer for World of Tanks: HEAT, you occupy a critical junction between Game Design, Engineering, and the Player. Your mission is to transform complex mechanical data—tank progression, ballistic physics, and strategic economy—into a seamless, intuitive, and aesthetically stunning user experience.

The role of a UI/UX designer in the modern gaming landscape has evolved. It is no longer sufficient to merely provide a functional overlay; you must create a “diegetic” experience where the interface feels like a natural extension of the armored warfare world. You will lead a dedicated team of designers, fostering a culture of mentorship, iterative excellence, and data-informed decision-making.

You are expected to be a “Player-First” advocate. This means moving beyond “making things look good” and diving deep into the psychology of motivation, the friction of decision-making, and the emotional arc of a gaming session. Whether it is refining the garage interface or optimizing the in-battle HUD, your goal is to reduce cognitive load while maximizing player immersion.

Core Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Team Growth

  • Team Management: You will directly manage a team of UI/UX designers, taking full responsibility for their professional growth, setting clear performance goals, and providing actionable, regular feedback.
  • Hiring & Onboarding: You will play a key role in identifying top-tier talent to scale the team, ensuring that new hires align with Wargaming’s high standards and collaborative culture.
  • Process Optimization: Define, document, and refine design workflows. You will bridge the gap between “creative chaos” and “operational efficiency,” ensuring the team has the tools and standards (Design Systems, Component Libraries) to succeed.

2. Design Ownership & Quality Assurance

  • Product Stewardship: Own the end-to-end UI/UX lifecycle for World of Tanks: HEAT. You are responsible for the consistency of the visual language and the logical flow of every feature.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary design liaison for Creative Direction, Game Design, and Technical Development teams. You ensure that design is treated as a core pillar of product development, not a secondary service.
  • Implementation Oversight: Work closely with developers to ensure that the “vision” translates perfectly into the “build.” You will hold the line on quality, ensuring that edge cases are handled and the final product is polished to a AAA standard.

3. Hands-on Execution & Research

  • Elite Craftsmanship: When the stakes are high or the features are exceptionally complex, you will roll up your sleeves and lead the design effort—from initial wireframing and conceptualization to high-fidelity delivery. Every UI/UX designer on your team will look to your work as the gold standard.
  • Data-Driven Design: Leverage UX Research (UXR) and telemetry data to validate hypotheses. You will translate player insights and A/B test results into practical design iterations that improve retention and satisfaction.
  • Systemic Thinking: Develop and maintain a cohesive Design System that allows for rapid scaling while maintaining the iconic World of Tanks aesthetic.

Candidate Profile: What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a rare blend of “The Visionary” and “The Facilitator.” As a UI/UX designer, you must possess the technical craft to inspire your team and the leadership maturity to navigate a large, international organization.

Professional Experience

  • The Veteran: A minimum of 5+ years in professional UI/UX design, with a significant portion of that time spent in the games industry. You understand the unique challenges of HUD design, inventory management, and meta-game navigation.
  • The Leader: At least 2+ years of experience in a formal people-management role. You must have experience managing “direct reports,” handling everything from career pathing to conflict resolution.
  • Product Mindset: Experience working within cross-functional product teams where design is integrated into the sprint cycle from day one.

Technical & Intellectual Skills

  • Psychological Insight: A deep understanding of player behavior. You should be able to articulate why a player clicks a button, not just where the button should be.
  • Execution Excellence: Mastery of industry-standard tools (Figma, Adobe XD, Photoshop) and a strong grasp of design fundamentals: typography, grid systems, color theory, and affordance.
  • Attention to Detail: A “healthy perfectionism” regarding edge cases. You think about what happens when the server lags, when the text is translated into a 20-character German word, or when a player is on a low-resolution monitor.
  • Communication: Professional-level English (C1). You must be able to pitch complex design philosophies to non-designers and stakeholders with clarity and conviction.
