The Vision: Why This Role Matters
In the competitive world of AAA gaming, the first point of contact a player has with a game is often through marketing assets. Whether it is a “Hero Image” on a digital storefront, a cinematic teaser on social media, or a high-impact poster for a global announcement, these visuals dictate the player’s perception of quality and tone.
As a Senior 2D/3D Artist, you are the guardian of the March of Giants visual identity. You will take the raw assets created by the production team—characters, environments, and props—and elevate them into “Campaign-Ready” masterpieces. This requires a unique blend of technical 3D proficiency and an old-school designer’s eye for 2D layout and composition.
Core Responsibilities: What You’ll Do
Your day-to-day will involve a sophisticated mix of creative direction and hands-on execution. You aren’t just a “cog in the machine”; you are the owner of creative initiatives from the initial sketch to the final pixel.
1. Cinematic 3D Production & Rendering
You will be responsible for creating high-fidelity 3D scenes specifically tailored for marketing. This is not about real-time gameplay performance; it is about visual impact.
- Staging & Composition: You will arrange characters and environments to create “hero moments” that capture the game’s core mechanics and emotional beats.
- Advanced Lighting: Using Unreal Engine 5 or external rendering engines, you will design lighting schemes that evoke mood, depth, and drama.
- Asset Integration: You will pull assets from the development pipeline and polish them, adding higher-resolution textures or custom shaders where necessary for marketing fidelity.
2. 2D Design & Branding Integration
3D is only half the battle. To make a marketing asset truly functional, it must work within a brand framework.
- Layout & Typography: You will apply strong 2D design principles to ensure that logos, UI elements, and text work harmoniously with your 3D renders.
- Post-Processing: Using Adobe Photoshop, you will perform digital painting, color grading, and compositing to give renders that final “AAA” sheen.
- Visual Language: You will help define the “Brand Guidelines” for March of Giants, ensuring that every piece of content—from a tiny mobile ad to a massive billboard—feels like it belongs to the same universe.
3. Strategic Collaboration
At Ubisoft, we believe in the power of “The Collective.” You will sit at the intersection of three major departments:
- Marketing & Community: Understanding what players want to see and what captures attention in a crowded market.
- Production/Dev Team: Keeping up to date with the latest builds of the game to ensure marketing visuals are authentic to the player experience.
- Creative Directors: Translating high-level artistic visions into tangible visual assets.
Qualifications: What You Bring to the Team
We are looking for a veteran artist who has spent years honing their craft at the intersection of technology and art.
- A Masterful Portfolio: This is your most important asset. We want to see 3D-driven marketing visuals that look like they belong on the front page of a global gaming store. Your portfolio should demonstrate an expert understanding of “The Shot”—knowing exactly where to place the camera to tell a story.
- Technical Mastery: * Unreal Engine 5: You should be comfortable navigating UE5, using Sequencer, and manipulating lighting/materials to generate high-end renders.
- Adobe Creative Suite: Expert-level Photoshop skills for compositing and retouching are mandatory.
- 3D DCC Tools: Proficiency in Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender for scene assembly and asset tweaking.
- Artistic Intuition: You have a deep understanding of color theory, the rule of thirds, and how to guide the viewer’s eye through a complex composition.
- Experience: You have several years of experience in a Senior role, ideally within the gaming or film industry, working on large-scale promotional campaigns.
- Autonomy: As a Senior member of the team, you are expected to take a brief and run with it, providing multiple creative directions and solving technical hurdles without constant supervision.
