For three decades, Rebellion has stood as a fiercely independent bastion of creativity, technological innovation, and high-octane entertainment. Founded by Jason and Chris Kingsley, we have grown from a passionate core team into a multi-studio phenomenon that refuses to be boxed into a single category. While Rebellion is globally renowned for developing and publishing critically acclaimed, chart-topping video games, our ecosystem stretches far beyond the digital realm.

We own and operate our own state-of-the-art film and television studios. We craft immersive board games that bring people together around physical tables. We publish gripping novels and non-fiction books.

Furthermore, as the custodians of the legendary 2000 AD brand, Rebellion is the proud curator, publisher, and steward of some of the world’s most iconic comics and graphic novels—including the dystopian masterpiece, Judge Dredd.

When you join Rebellion, you are not just taking a job at a studio; you are becoming an integral part of an expansive, multi-media creative empire. As a massive independent developer, we maintain complete creative freedom over our titles, allowing us to work on an incredible variety of projects across all major current-generation platforms.

We love what we do, we have fun doing it, and we are looking for a talented Environment Artist to help us build our next spectacular universe.

The Opportunity & Project Vision

This is a monumental moment to step into the fold at Rebellion. Fresh off the massive, critically acclaimed success of Atomfall—our largest, most ambitious game launch to date—and building upon the legendary legacy of our flagship Sniper Elite series, we are looking forward to the future.

We are seeking a passionate, driven, and technically accomplished artist to help elevate the visual fidelity, atmosphere, and environmental storytelling of a highly anticipated, unannounced project. This is a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an exciting new world, helping Rebellion establish its physical presence from early block-outs to final, polished AAA assets.

In this role, you will focus on crafting realistic props, architectural elements, and expansive environments. Rebellion isn’t looking for simple duplicators; we want an artist who brings original ideas to the table, someone who can look at a concept or a blank gray-box level and infuse it with history, narrative depth, and visual texture.

Core Roles & Responsibilities

As a mid-level artist at Rebellion, a high degree of autonomy, a proactive attitude, and a naturally curious mindset are critical to your success. You will have direct ownership of your work, managing everything from individual hero props to the visual identity of entire levels. Your day-to-day journey will include:

Spatial Planning & Visual Storytelling

  • Narrative Driven Design: Assist in planning out environmental spaces, ensuring that every room, street, or landscape tells a story, reflects the game’s lore, and respects the underlying narrative context.
  • Documentation: Clear documentation of your artistic intentions, references, and scene-planning pipelines to keep cross-discipline teams aligned.

Cross-Discipline Collaboration

  • Design Alignment: Partner tightly with Rebellion Level Designers to transform gray-box prototypes into visually stunning, navigable spaces that protect core gameplay loops and player flow.
  • Technical Synergy: Work alongside Technical Artists and Senior Artists to establish, maintain, and safeguard the technical and artistic quality of the project.
  • Feedback Integration: Actively implement and incorporate constructive feedback from Producers, Art Directors, and Project Leads to iteratively elevate the game’s aesthetic.

Asset Production & Management

  • Smart Component Architecture: Author highly functional, modular assets and systems that can be shared across the project, balancing artistic beauty with technical constraints.
  • Outsource Feedback: Provide clear, professional, and actionable feedback on assets created by external outsourcing partners, ensuring they seamlessly match Rebellion’s internal quality standards.
  • Task Management: Maintain rigorous organization by tracking, updating, and managing your daily tasks using our designated project tracking software.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

We are looking for an artist who sits comfortably at the intersection of technical discipline and raw creative talent. The ideal candidate will possess a portfolio that showcases realistic art styles, high-fidelity prop work, and beautifully composed environments or dioramas rendered within a modern game engine.

Professional Experience

  • Proven Track Record: A solid baseline of experience working within a professional video game development environment.
  • Current-Gen Optimization: Demonstrable experience in profiling, optimizing, and budgeting scenes and assets for modern hardware platforms to ensure flawless performance.

Software & Technical Expertise

  • 3D Modeling: Comprehensive mastery of 3D creation software. While knowledge of various industry-standard tools is great, Blender is Rebellion’s preferred pipeline tool.
  • Texturing & Baking: Expert knowledge of Substance Painter, PBR (Physically Based Rendering) material workflows, and clean high-to-low poly baking routines.
  • Geometry & UVs: The ability to consistently construct clean, well-optimized topology with precise game-ready geometry and highly efficient, accurate texel density.

Artistic & Personal Skills

  • Aesthetic Instincts: A deeply refined eye for composition, architectural scale, real-world proportion, and dramatic lighting.
  • Adaptability: The maturity to present work professionally, pivot smoothly in the face of shifting production demands, and remain enthusiastic about learning new proprietary tools and workflows.
  • Education: A traditional fine art background is highly desirable and considered a major plus, though it is not an absolute requirement.

Comprehensive Benefits Package

At Rebellion, we believe that our people are our greatest asset. To ensure our team feels valued, secure, and motivated, we offer an industry-leading benefits package designed to support your life both inside and outside the studio:

  • Generous Paid Time Off: 22 days of annual leave, plus a dedicated Christmas studio closure (typically 4 days), alongside all standard UK Bank Holidays. To reward loyalty, your holiday allowance increases with service after 5 years by one day each year, up to a maximum of 31 days.
  • Health & Wellness: Premium Private Medical Insurance and a comprehensive healthcare cash plan that includes dental and vision coverage.
  • Financial Protection: Robust Life Assurance, Income Protection, and Critical Illness Cover to give you and your loved ones total peace of mind.
  • Family Support: Enhanced Family Leave policies to support you through life’s major milestones.
  • Financial Flexibility: Access to interest-free, tax-free loans for travel or personal needs, alongside an Enhanced Pension Scheme.
  • Mental Health Support: A dedicated Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) providing a wide array of mental health, wellness, and counseling resources.
  • Perks & Lifestyle: A massive selection of retail discounts, lifestyle freebies, and regular, subsidised studio social events.
