The Opportunity & Department Culture
We are looking for a passionate, driven Junior VFX Artist who wants to establish a long-term career in the game development industry and author dazzling real-time visual effects for one of the world’s top-grossing mobile portfolios.
At Playrix, we look at visual effects through a psychological lens. We understand that a great effect does not just sit on a screen; it amplifies player emotions, breathes life into flat user interfaces, reinforces the gameplay loop, and elevates the user experience.
As a junior member of our VFX department, you will not be relegated to administrative busywork or asset management. From day one, you will be given ownership of real production tasks and paired with experienced mentors.
You will work alongside a top-tier team of tech-focused artists, designers, and programmers, rapidly leveling up your skills to become an expert who understands how the absolute best effects in the modern gaming industry are designed, optimized, and deployed.
Scope of Work & Key Responsibilities
In this role, your daily tasks will bridge the gap between creative visual expression and mobile hardware optimization. Your core responsibilities include:
1. Multi-Disciplinary VFX Creation
- Gameplay & Feature FX: Concept and create eye-catching visual effects that support core game features, rewarding player milestones, and real-time mechanics.
- Dynamic UI Animation: Bring standard menu screens and static user interfaces to life by embedding subtle, expressive ambient effects and high-energy button interactions.
- Asset Asset Authoring: Handle the entire technical lifecycle of an effect—designing custom textures, keyframed sub-animations, and sprite sheets from an initial thumbnail concept up to final implementation in the live engine.
2. Mobile Engine Optimization
- Performance Audits: Profile and optimize your real-time visual effects to ensure they run flawlessly across a vast array of mobile hardware, strictly adhering to draw call, overdraw, and memory constraints without sacrificing visual pop.
- Pipeline Alignment: Maintain clean asset structures and file naming conventions to support high-performance mobile project requirements.
3. Cross-Functional Synchronization
- Collaborative Design: Work closely with senior VFX artists, game designers, and gameplay programmers to ensure your visual effects perfectly synchronize with corresponding audio, game physics, and user feedback loops.
Position Requirements VFX Artist
We want to talk to candidates who have a foundational understanding of the core principles of motion and a burning desire to master the technical side of real-time particle simulation.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Professional Longevity: 1+ years of proven experience authoring visual effects, 2D/3D animation, or working in a closely related digital art field.
- Artistic Foundation: An excellent, demonstrable sense of composition, color theory, value structure, timing, and physics-based dynamics.
- Animation Literacy: Advanced proficiency in traditional animation principles (squash and stretch, anticipation, staging, follow-through) and a proven ability to implement them practically in a digital toolset.
- Passion for the Discipline: A deep, self-motivated interest in real-time game visual effects and an understanding of their impact on casual player retention.
Preferred Technical Assets
- Engine Familiarity: Direct hands-on experience using Unity (Particle System / VFX Graph) or comparable real-time game creation engines.
- Stylized Art Focus: A keen interest in creating 2D hand-drawn or stylized vector-based visual effects that fit casual, vibrant mobile art aesthetics.
- Technical Art Aptitude: A solid foundational grasp of the technical mechanics under the hood of visual effects (e.g., blend modes, transparency limitations, basic vertex shaders).
- Mobile Experience: Prior experience working on live mobile projects utilizing similar casual or stylized art directions.
