Titmouse Animation, the award-winning independent animation studio behind some of the most iconic and boundary-pushing series in modern television, is seeking a talented 2D Animator to join our Vancouver team. This role is a fantastic opportunity for an artist who excels in Adobe Animate and thrives in a fast-paced, highly creative production environment.

As an Animator at Titmouse Animation, you aren’t just moving assets; you are a digital performer. Under the guidance of the Director and Animation Supervisor, you will be responsible for injecting personality, weight, and life into characters, objects, and environments, ensuring every frame aligns with the unique visual style of the project.

About Titmouse Vancouver

Titmouse Animation is known globally for its “artist-first” culture. We pride ourselves on taking on projects that challenge the status quo, ranging from high-octane action to surreal adult comedy and charming kids’ content. Our Vancouver studio is a hub of innovation situated in one of the world’s premier animation markets.

Working at Titmouse means being part of a legacy. Whether it’s the fluid action of The Legend of Vox Machina, the chaos of Beavis and Butt-Head, or the stylized worlds of our various Netflix and Amazon collaborations, you will be contributing to content that viewers truly care about. We foster an environment where “weird” is good, and quality is paramount.

What Will You Do?

The Animator is the engine of the production pipeline. You will take static designs and transform them into dynamic performances. Your day-to-day will involve a sophisticated mix of technical execution and artistic interpretation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performance & Posing: Create high-quality 2D animation that adheres to project specifications. You will apply core animation principles—squash and stretch, anticipation, staging, and solid drawing—to ensure character performances are believable and engaging.

  • Technical Implementation: Use Adobe Animate to implement character and object movements. You must ensure that lip-sync is accurate and that all motions are perfectly synchronized with the provided sound and dialogue tracks.

  • Adherence to Style: Every project at Titmouse has a distinct “soul.” You will work closely with the Director to ensure your work maintains consistency with established visual styles, whether it’s traditional hand-drawn looks or modern puppet-based animation.

  • Collaboration & Iteration: Animation is a conversation. You will take direction and notes from Directors and Supervisors, implementing creative and technical changes efficiently to satisfy the project’s goals.

  • Pipeline Discipline: Follow strict naming conventions for all assets and animation files to ensure a smooth hand-off to the compositing and post-production teams.

  • Quota Management: Take ownership of your assigned tasks. You are expected to manage your time effectively to meet weekly quota requirements and maintain the overall production schedule.

What We Expect (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

We are looking for an animator who is as organized as they are creative. The ideal candidate has a “can-do” attitude and a deep love for the craft of 2D storytelling.

  • Software Mastery: You must be highly proficient in Adobe Animate (formerly Flash). You should understand the ins and outs of the timeline, symbols, and library management.

  • Animation Versatility: Familiarity with various styles is key. We look for artists who can pivot between traditional hand-drawn techniques, cut-out animation, and complex puppet rigging.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication is essential. You must be able to ask appropriate questions to clarify assignments and provide clear updates on your progress.

  • Professional Acumen: You must be detail-oriented and highly organized. In a fast-paced environment, the ability to multitask and manage time without constant supervision is what separates a good animator from a great one.

  • Adaptability: The industry is constantly evolving. We value a willingness to learn new tools and adapt to shifting production standards or trends.

  • Confidentiality: You will be working on unreleased, high-profile intellectual property. Maintaining strict confidentiality over all proprietary information is a mandatory requirement.

Work Environment and Hybrid Model

This position is based in our Vancouver office. While we support a hybrid work model, all candidates must be eligible to work in Canada and able to come into the Vancouver office as required by the production.

Note on Collective Bargaining: Titmouse Animation Studio respects and adheres to industry standards. If the work for this position falls within the geographical jurisdiction of a collective bargaining agreement (such as the Animation Guild), it will be covered by the terms of that agreement, ensuring fair treatment and standardized working conditions.

Required Work Habits: The “Titmouse Way”

Beyond your portfolio, we value how you show up to work. We believe a positive studio culture is built on mutual respect and dependability.

  1. Dependability: Arriving and leaving on time, respecting lunch and break periods, and ensuring personal tasks do not interfere with production hours.

  2. Team Synergy: Being a team player means not only doing your own work but being flexible enough to assist others when needed to ensure the overall project succeeds.

  3. Proactive Learning: If you don’t understand a note, ask! We prefer an animator who seeks clarification early rather than someone who spends hours on the wrong path.

  4. Professional Conduct: We strive to provide a professional, non-disruptive environment. We expect all staff to maintain a courteous and cooperative manner with both internal colleagues and outside contacts.

  5. Organization: Keeping your work area and digital files organized is not just a personal habit—it is a contribution to the studio’s overall efficiency.

Compensation and Project Timeline

  • Weekly Rate: $990.00 – $1,275.00 per week.

  • Timeline: This is a contract role starting as early as March 2nd, 2026, and estimated to run through late June or mid-July 2026.

  • Seniority: The specific compensation within the range will be commensurate with your documented experience and the skill level demonstrated in your portfolio.

Detailed Breakdown of the Animation Pipeline at Titmouse

To help you understand your place in our machine, here is how a typical week for a Titmouse Animator looks:

  • Monday Kickoff: You receive your “package” for the week, which includes layouts, audio, and character rigs. You’ll have a brief sync with your Animation Supervisor to discuss the specific acting beats required for your scenes.

  • The Blocking Phase: You’ll spend the first portion of your time blocking out key poses. At this stage, you’re looking for the strongest silhouettes and the clearest storytelling beats.

  • The Polish Phase: Once poses are approved, you’ll dive into the “meat” of the animation—timing, arcs, and secondary motion. This is where you ensure the hair bounces correctly and the eye-blinks feel natural.

  • The Feedback Loop: You’ll submit your shots for review. You might get a note to “push the expression” or “tighten the timing on the exit.” You’ll implement these changes and resubmit for final approval.

  • Final Delivery: Once the Director signs off, you clean up your file, check your naming conventions, and push it to the next stage of production.
