The Opportunity

We are currently expanding our operations and looking for an empathetic, resilient, and highly organized HR Generalist to join our dedicated Human Resources department. If you possess a deep passion for full-cycle HR, talent acquisition, employee relations, and guiding both creative artists and studio leaders through the everyday realities of production, this is your chance to make a profound, lasting impact.

This role is initially structured as a one-year contract, but for the right candidate, there is an absolute possibility of contract extension as our studio continues to grow and expand its slate of projects.

In this pivotal role, you will act as a true, trusted partner to our studio crew and leadership team. You will drive our robust recruitment cycles while managing critical, day-to-day human resources responsibilities. This includes stepping in proactively to navigate sensitive employee relations, performance management, compliance tracking, and respectful offboarding. During your two scheduled days in our vibrant Vancouver studio, you will also provide light, hands-on facility support to keep our physical workspace running smoothly, securely, and welcoming for the entire team.

If you thrive in a dynamic, creative environment where your people skills, emotional intelligence, and organizational rigor are genuinely valued, Stellar Creative Lab is the ideal place for you to advance your HR career.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations

As an HR Generalist at Stellar, your day-to-day contributions will span strategic employee relations, full-cycle recruitment, compliance, and light facilities coordination. Success in this role is defined by three core pillars:

1. Employee Relations & Performance Management (Core Focus)

  • Navigating Difficult Conversations: Act as a trusted, objective partner to supervisors and department leads when managing complex employee relations. You will guide managers through challenging conversations, performance improvement plans (PIPs), and—when necessary—handle terminations with utmost empathy, legal compliance, and grace.
  • Performance Culture: Own, track, and continuously improve our review cycles, including regular performance reviews and probation assessments. Ensure managers are fully equipped to deliver constructive, actionable feedback and that artists feel heard, valued, and supported in their professional growth.
  • Everyday HR Support: Serve as the approachable, friendly first point of contact for employee inquiries regarding company policies, leaves of absence, benefits, and standard HR procedures.
  • Compliance Custodian: Maintain and update our HR policies, employee handbooks, contract templates, and personnel records using our HRIS (Payworks). Apply policies consistently, keep all documentation audit-ready, and escalate complex structural issues to the HR Manager when appropriate.

2. Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Full-Cycle Recruiting: Source, screen, coordinate, and interview candidates across a diverse range of studio roles using our Applicant Tracking System (JazzHR). Build repeatable, efficient talent pipelines and cultivate a positive candidate experience that reflects our studio values.
  • Seamless Onboarding: Execute smooth, consistent onboarding processes so every new hire starts their journey strong. Coordinate seamlessly across departments—including IT, Payroll, and Production Teams—to ensure hardware, software, and desk setups are ready on day one.

3. Facilities & Studio Support (In-Studio Days)

  • Physical Office Support: During your two required days working from the Vancouver studio, act as the primary point person for basic physical office needs. Rather than performing manual repairs yourself, you will coordinate professionally with building management to resolve utility, HVAC/AC, or electrical service requests.
  • Security & Access Control: Maintain the physical studio access card and alarm code security system, issuing and revoking credentials safely for incoming and departing employees.
  • Inventory & Studio Culture: Keep a close eye on facilities documentation and proactively manage office supply inventory. Partner closely with Production Teams to help plan and execute company social events, holiday celebrations, and team lunches.
  • Occupational Health & Safety: Ensure our physical workspace operates in strict compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety regulations of British Columbia.

The Requirements: What We Are Looking For

o succeed in this mid-level HR role, candidates must combine technical compliance knowledge with high emotional intelligence and exceptional organizational capabilities:

Core Must-Haves

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related post-secondary Diploma or Certificate.
  • Experience: 3+ years of hands-on HR generalist experience. You must possess a balanced background combining full-cycle recruitment and day-to-day operational HR administration (not solely specialized in just one area).
  • Compliance Knowledge: Working, up-to-date knowledge of Canadian employment standards, labor laws, and HR compliance regulations, with a proven ability to apply policies accurately and maintain spotless records.
  • Core Competencies: Exceptional organizational skills, sound professional judgment, and absolute discretion when handling highly confidential employee information. Strong problem-solving abilities and the agility to balance multiple shifting tasks simultaneously.
  • Communication: Outstanding written and verbal English communication skills. You consistently display professional integrity, discretion, and strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Technical Tools: Highly proficient with the Google Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail).
  • Work Arrangement: Must be comfortable and willing to work a hybrid schedule, reporting to our Vancouver studio 2 days per week.

Nice-to-Haves (Bonus Points)

  • Hands-on professional experience utilizing an HRIS platform (such as Payworks) and an ATS platform (such as JazzHR), along with active LinkedIn Recruiter sourcing experience.
  • Prior background or working familiarity with digital marketing or social media management.

Why Join Stellar Creative Lab?

We take pride in taking care of our team members. Joining Stellar means gaining access to a comprehensive package of perks, professional growth opportunities, and a world-class studio culture:

  • Flexible Hybrid Environment: Enjoy the best of both worlds with a balanced hybrid schedule that offers focused work-from-home days alongside collaborative, connected time in our Vancouver studio.
