The Role

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Layout Supervisor to join our VFX team in Sydney. Reporting to the Head of CG, the Supervisor is crucial to the success of an assigned Show, ensuring that all work delivered by the Layout Department meets the highest creative and technical standards.

You will be responsible for defining the layout approach for sequences and shots, setting the creative and technical standards for your team, and ensuring production is delivered on time, on budget, and sustainably. This role requires a strong focus on cinematography, technical problem-solving, and team mentorship.

Team Leadership & MentorshipProviding creative and technical leadership, support, and feedback to all Layout Artists. Contributing to training schemes and providing accurate, timely feedback on artist performance.Recruitment, including interviewing and providing summaries. Planning and delivering training. Assigning appropriate tasks to team members.
Production & DailiesDelivering the highest quality work to dailies on schedule. Approving work ready for the next department. Providing accurate time estimations for delivery plans.Cross-department communication to ensure efficient workflow.
Workflow & DocumentationAdhering to and maintaining consistent department documentation, workflows, and processes. Delivering department documentation for Show post-mortem.N/A

Essential Qualifications (“Must Have”)

  • Extensive high-end VFX experience in feature film production.
  • Proven team supervision experience.
  • Extensive experience using Maya.
  • Experience in camera animation.
  • Strong artistic eye and a deep understanding of composition, staging, and cinematography.
  • A thorough understanding of storytelling and continuity.
  • Thorough understanding of 3D VFX processes and production pipelines.
  • Demonstrates a strong skill-set in troubleshooting pipeline issues.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Experience meeting deadlines while retaining a high quality of work.
