DNEG — the award-winning studio behind some of the biggest blockbusters — is looking for a Senior FX Technical Director (FX TD) to join its Performance (Animation, Creature & FX) team in Montréal, Quebec and Vancouver, Canada.

💼 About the Role

As an FX TD at DNEG, you’ll collaborate closely with departments like Build, Layout, and Animation to bring breathtaking simulations to life. Using tools like Houdini and custom in-house software, you’ll create realistic effects including smoke, fire, fluids, cloth, fur, and explosions for high-end feature films.

🔧 Responsibilities

Produce high-quality FX simulations (particles, pyro, rigid bodies, fluids, cloth, fur, and hair).
Work with other teams to ensure FX elements integrate seamlessly into shots.
Solve technical challenges and optimize pipeline workflows.
Use Houdini and custom tools for photoreal results.

🎯 Must-Have Skills

5+ years of experience in feature film VFX.
Proven expertise in Houdini and FX like fire, smoke, explosions, and water.
Strong problem-solving and technical background.
Understanding of compositing workflows (Nuke preferred).
Experience with live-action VFX and simulation techniques.

💡 Nice to Have

Knowledge of Maya, Python, Hscript, or MEL.
Experience with Linux/Unix systems.
Generalist TD background.
Previous work in TV, Games, or Animation VFX.
