Detailed Job Description

As the Outsource Art Coordinator, your primary goal is to maintain the visual integrity and technical quality of character-related assets produced outside our studio walls. You are the bridge between Climax Studios’ internal vision and our global network of external partners.

This role requires a unique “hybrid” skillset. On one hand, you must be a master of the craft—capable of jumping into ZBrush or Maya to create high-quality models, environments, or weapons when the project demands. On the other hand, you must be an effective communicator and project manager, capable of translating abstract art direction into clear, actionable technical documentation for external teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • External Management: Act as the primary point of contact for external art teams, providing detailed, constructive feedback to ensure all assets align with the project’s art style and technical requirements.
  • Documentation & Reference: Create comprehensive documentation, visual benchmarks, and workflow examples to minimize friction and ensure external artists understand our pipeline from day one.
  • Quality Control: Review all incoming assets (Characters, Weapons, and Props). You will be responsible for approving work that meets our AAA standards and identifying areas for improvement in those that don’t.
  • Technical Integration: Take approved assets and implement them into the game engine (Unreal Engine 4/5 or Unity), making necessary tweaks to materials or geometry to ensure they are “game-ready.”
  • Production Tracking: Work closely with internal Art Leads to schedule, track, and report on the status of incoming assets, ensuring that production milestones are met on time and within budget.
  • In-House Art Support: When not managing external pipelines, you will apply your skills to create high-quality 3D assets internally to support the core art team.

Candidate Requirements

Technical Skills & Experience

  • AAA Background: You must be a veteran of the AAA industry with a deep understanding of modern game art pipelines and high-fidelity asset creation.
  • Character & Environment Mastery: Exceptional skills in character, weapon, and environment modelling. You should be as comfortable sculpting organic forms in ZBrush as you are with hard-surface modelling in Maya.
  • Software Proficiency: Expert command of Autodesk Maya, ZBrush, and the Substance Suite.
  • Engine Expertise: Hands-on experience implementing assets within Unreal Engine 4/5 and Unity.
  • Quality Focus: An extremely high bar for quality and a meticulous attention to detail.

Soft Skills & Leadership

  • Communication: You are gregarious, friendly, and capable of building strong relationships with both internal colleagues and remote external teams.
  • Management: Excellent time management skills and a proven ability to manage deadlines and production budgets effectively.
  • Self-Motivation: You are a proactive problem-solver who can take a brief and run with it, keeping the pipeline moving without constant supervision.
