At CD PROJEKT RED, our mission is to create revolutionary, story-driven RPGs that go straight to the hearts of gamers. Project Sirius represents a bold step forward, blending our signature narrative depth with innovative multiplayer gameplay.
The Lead VFX Artist is a high-impact leadership position. You will be responsible for the “wow” factor—the atmospheric fog that clings to a swamp, the sparks of a Silver Sword against steel, and the chaotic energy of magical combat. Beyond the pixels, you are a culture-builder. You will foster an environment where creativity thrives, technical hurdles are dismantled through collaboration, and every artist feels empowered to do their best work.
Key Daily Responsibilities
- Team Mentorship: Lead and inspire a team of skilled VFX Artists. You will be responsible for their career trajectory, providing regular feedback, conducting performance reviews, and championing a culture of trust and inclusivity.
- Artistic Implementation: Design and execute high-end real-time VFX that align with the creative director’s vision while pushing the limits of modern hardware.
- Cross-Discipline Collaboration: Work intimately with Gameplay, Cinematics, and Environment teams to ensure effects are not just “pretty,” but functional and immersive within the game’s mechanics.
- Pipeline Innovation: Research and prototype cutting-edge workflows in Unreal Engine 5 and Houdini to keep our studio at the forefront of the industry.
- Optimization & Performance: Oversee the technical integrity of all effects, ensuring they run smoothly across target platforms without sacrificing visual fidelity.
- Production Oversight: Partner with Production and Directors to manage timelines, milestones, and external outsourcing partners.
We are looking for a veteran of the industry who understands the delicate balance between aesthetic beauty and technical constraints.
- Experience: Minimum of 8+ years in game development with at least one shipped AAA title in a Lead or Senior Leadership capacity.
- Technical Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 and its Niagara VFX system.
- Simulation Skills: Deep proficiency in both real-time and baked simulations, specifically using SideFX Houdini.
- Rendering Knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) workflows, custom shader development, and lighting.
- Problem Solving: The ability to independently troubleshoot complex technical issues and optimize heavy particle systems for high-performance multiplayer environments.
- Portfolio: A world-class portfolio demonstrating mastery in timing, scale, color theory, and technical execution of game VFX. (Submission is mandatory for consideration).
