About the Role
As an Animator at DNEG Animation, you’ll be responsible for creating compelling character animation that aligns perfectly with the director’s vision and the story’s emotional tone. You’ll work closely with the animation leads, supervisors, and other departments to ensure that every performance — from subtle gestures to complex action sequences — feels authentic, dynamic, and visually engaging.

Key Responsibilities
- Animate for Feature Films: Produce high-quality animation for feature films, maintaining consistency with the creative direction, story, and character personality.
- Collaborate Across Departments: Work with layout, rigging, lighting, and compositing teams to ensure that the final output meets DNEG’s world-class standards.
- Creative Interpretation: Understand feedback from directors and animation supervisors and incorporate it effectively to enhance performance quality.
- Master the Tools: Use leading animation software such as Autodesk Maya, Blender, or equivalent programs to create smooth, expressive, and dynamic character movement.
- Stay Current: Keep yourself updated with evolving animation technologies, tools, and workflows, applying new techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of your work.
- Meet Deadlines: Manage your time efficiently and deliver high-quality animation assets within scheduled deadlines.
- Team Contribution: Actively participate in daily reviews, dailies, and team meetings, contributing creative ideas and solutions that benefit the entire project.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Fine Arts, or a related discipline — or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in feature film animation, TV series, or other related fields.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of animation principles — including timing, spacing, squash and stretch, anticipation, and acting.
- Software Knowledge: Proficiency in Maya, Blender, or other professional animation tools. Experience with motion capture and integrating mocap data into animated sequences will be considered a plus.
- Artistic Strengths: A keen eye for detail, strong sense of storytelling, and the ability to translate emotions and intent into character performances.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate efficiently with global teams.
- Feedback Integration: Ability to accept constructive feedback, interpret it creatively, and apply changes quickly without compromising quality.
- Portfolio: A strong demo reel that demonstrates a wide range of animation styles — from realistic motion to stylized character work.
Desirable Skills
- Basic knowledge of rigging and character setup workflows.
- Familiarity with VFX pipelines, including how animation integrates with lighting, compositing, and effects.
- Problem-solving mindset with an eye for technical and artistic precision.
- Understanding of cinematography, camera movement, and storytelling to enhance character performances.
