About the Role

The Rigging Supervisor is both the creative and technical leader of the rigging department on a show. Working closely with the VFX Supervisor, CG Supervisor, and Animation Director, you will help bring the client’s vision to life by guiding a team of artists in crafting high-quality, lifelike characters and assets.

With deep expertise in rigging workflows, anatomy, and performance, you’ll ensure assets are built with cutting-edge techniques and seamlessly integrated into the production pipeline. This role demands strong leadership, problem-solving, and an eye for both artistic detail and technical precision.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the rigging team, providing creative and technical direction
  • Collaborate with supervisors and other departments to deliver rigs that integrate smoothly into production
  • Ensure assets meet both artistic vision and technical requirements
  • Balance quality with production deadlines
  • Mentor, delegate, and support artists within the rigging team
  • Drive innovation by applying the latest tools and techniques in CG feature animation

Requirements

✅ High proficiency in rigging pipeline technologies (modular rigging, deformation, simulation, publishing, Shotgrid)
✅ Expertise in muscle, skin, cloth, hair, fur, and feather deformation/simulation
✅ Strong knowledge of body & facial anatomy (including FACS)
✅ Proven experience producing creature and character work with exceptional attention to motion and detail
✅ Proficiency in Maya, Python, and production tracking systems
✅ Ability to balance creative quality with time constraints
✅ Excellent leadership, delegation, and communication skills

Nice to Have:

  • Houdini experience

  • Grooming expertise

  • Cloth simulation knowledge

  • Crowd work experience

  • Programming in C++; QT or PySide familiarity
