Core Responsibilities as FX Artist
1. High-End Simulation & Design
- Elemental Effects: You will design and implement a wide array of simulations, including fire, fluids, atmosphere, and explosions.
- Hyper-Realism: Your primary goal is to ensure all effects are grounded in reality, matching the physical properties and lighting of hyper-real environments.
- Creative Problem Solving: You will use your artistic sense to develop photo-realistic effects for environments, characters, and magical elements.
2. Tool Development & Pipeline Integration
- Custom Toolsets: A significant part of this role involves creating tools that streamline the FX pipeline, making workflows more efficient for the entire department.
- Workflow Optimization: You will contribute to the evolution of Outpost’s internal FX resources, ensuring we remain at the cutting edge of VFX technology.
3. Mentorship & Collaboration
- Team Growth: You will aid more junior artists in their professional development, providing guidance on technical hurdles and artistic direction.
- Cross-Departmental Synergy: You will work alongside talented, friendly, and genuine individuals across various departments to ensure a cohesive final image.
4. Quality Control & Delivery
- High-Level Standards: You will maintain the high standards required for top-tier episodic and film productions, ensuring all work meets client expectations.
- Iterative Refinement: You will respond to feedback from FX Leads and VFX Supervisors, refining simulations until they reach peak quality.
Technical Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful in this role as FX Artist , candidates must demonstrate a blend of technical mastery and artistic intuition.
- Software Mastery: Proven experience working extensively within Houdini is essential.
- Artistic Vision: A strong artistic sense of photo-realistic effects is required, specifically regarding how FX interact with environments and characters.
- Project History: Previous experience working on high-level VFX projects in a professional studio environment is a must.
- Technical Versatility: Familiarity with various simulation solvers (pyro, liquids, grains, vellum) and a deep understanding of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) workflows.
