What a Senior VFX Artist Does at Playrix
As a Senior VFX Artist, you are the bridge between static art and a living, breathing game world. Your mission is to add “juice,” feedback, and visual excitement to every player interaction.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
- Feature Development: Lead the visualization of complex linear tasks. As an Artist, you will own the effect pipeline for specific feature teams, ensuring every spark, glow, and transition feels premium.
- UI & Object Animation: You won’t just make particles; you will create seamless UI animations and object transitions. As an Artist at Playrix ensures that player interaction with the UI is intuitive and rewarding.
- Asset Creation: Develop custom textures, sprite sequences, and frame-by-frame animations. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of an effect, from the first sketch to the final in-game optimization.
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: You will initiate and coordinate technical and artistic decisions with fellow Artists, game designers, and programmers. Your goal is to maintain a high level of visual quality while respecting the technical constraints of mobile hardware.
- Technical Optimization: Fine-tune batching, draw calls, and atlas usage to ensure our Artist solutions run smoothly on a wide range of mobile devices.
Professional Requirements
To succeed as a Artist at Playrix, you need a blend of artistic “soul” and technical “discipline.”
- Casual Style Mastery: A portfolio that showcases a deep understanding of the “Casual” aesthetic (bright colors, clear silhouettes, satisfying feedback).
- Proven Experience: At least 3+ years of professional experience as a Artist or Animator, preferably within the mobile gaming sector.
- Technical Toolkit: Expert-level skills in Unity or Unreal Engine. A top-tier Artist must understand how to manipulate particle systems, shaders, and animation timelines effectively.
- Composition & Timing: An excellent sense of color theory, timing, and dynamics. We need a Artist who understands that the “feel” of an effect is just as important as the look.
- Linguistic Skills: Native or professional fluency in Russian is essential for internal collaboration and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications (The “Plus” Factors)
- 2D Expertise: An interest in 2D hand-drawn effects and traditional animation principles.
- Technical Depth: A Artist who understands shaders (HLSL/GLSL) and how to build them from scratch will stand out.
- Low-Poly Skills: Ability to perform basic 3D modeling for mesh-based effects.
- Market Awareness: Familiarity with stylistically similar projects (e.g., Royal Match, Candy Crush, or other Playrix titles).
The Playrix Philosophy: Why You’ll Love It Here
At Playrix, the role of a Artist is respected as a “Full-Fledged Partner.” We don’t just hand you a task list; we ask for your opinion.
1. Innovation & AI Integration
We are pioneers in utilizing Neural Networks within our art pipelines. As a Artist, you will have access to unique AI tools that handle the heavy lifting of optimization and asset generation, allowing you to focus on the pure creativity of visual effects.
2. Career Evolution
The path for a Artist here is flexible. You can grow vertically into VFX Team Management or horizontally into a Principal Artist, setting the art vision for entire products.
3. Unrivaled Perks & Benefits
- True Flexibility: Work from anywhere in the world. We evaluate your results as a Artist, not your “desk time.”
- Health First: Voluntary health insurance for employees and children, plus reimbursed sessions with psychologists to support your mental well-being.
- Fitness & Wellness: Gym membership reimbursements and fitness app subscriptions are standard.
- Education: We pay for your attendance at international conferences and specialized courses to help you stay the best Artist in the industry.
- Internal Culture: Join our hackathons, quizzes, and “offline” team meetings. Use our internal currency to buy exclusive gear from the Playrix Merch Store.
Work Format & Relocation
Playrix is a global company with a remote-first mindset. However, please note:
- Relocation Requirement: This role requires relocation from Russia or Belarus.
- Support: We provide comprehensive assistance for moving to one of our corporate offices in Cyprus, Serbia, Armenia, or Kazakhstan, or you may work remotely from any other country worldwide.
