Primary Roles & Strategic Responsibilities

As a Senior Game Designer, your influence will be felt across every layer of production. You will be the bridge between high-level vision and technical execution.

  • Vision Realization: You will work in close proximity to the Game Director to add granular definition to the project’s design vision. Your goal is to turn abstract concepts into concrete, playable systems.
  • System Architecture: A core part of your day-to-day will involve designing and developing game mechanic systems. Whether it is combat pacing, character movement, or progression loops, you will ensure these features are fun, engaging, and accessible to a broad demographic.
  • IP Integration: We often work with high-profile intellectual properties. As a Game Designer, you must be able to operate within strict IP guidelines while still delivering fresh, compelling progression loops that respect the source material.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: You will lead within small, multi-disciplinary teams. This involves working hand-in-hand with the Art and Code departments to ensure the design vision is technically feasible and visually stunning.
  • UX/UI Oversight: Beyond mechanics, you will define UI flow and functionality, ensuring the player’s journey through menus and interfaces is as seamless as the gameplay itself.
  • Balance & Level Design: You will be responsible for creating balanced level designs tailored to the specific focus of the game—whether that involves intricate character-based puzzles or high-speed vehicle navigation.

Professional Requirements as Game Designer

To maintain our standard of excellence, we are looking for a Game Designer who meets the following professional criteria:

  • Industry Tenure: At least 5+ years of professional experience in game design is required. We are looking for someone who has seen projects through from pre-production to launch.
  • Genre Versatility: You should be passionate about game design across a wide variety of genres, demonstrating a flexible creative mind.
  • Analytical Problem Solving: You must be a creative thinker capable of designing elegant solutions to complex design bottlenecks identified during the development cycle.
  • Communication Mastery: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are non-negotiable. You must be able to pitch ideas clearly to stakeholders and document systems meticulously for the engineering team.
  • UK Work Authorization: Candidates must currently have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom.

Desirable Attributes

We highly value a Game Designer who brings additional depth to the team, such as:

  • Technical Familiarity: Practical knowledge of Unity and Unreal Engine to help prototype or tweak systems.
  • Multi-Platform Background: Experience defining designs for everything from mobile touch-screens to immersive VR environments.
  • Mechanical Interest: A genuine interest in vehicles (both real-world and conceptual) or a deep understanding of board games and CCGs, as these often influence our systemic balancing.

World-Class Benefits & Lifestyle

We believe that creativity requires the right environment. That is why we offer a comprehensive package that looks after you both inside and outside the office.

  • Rest & Rejuvenation: Enjoy 22 days of annual holiday, plus all UK bank holidays, and a guaranteed 2-week shutdown over the Christmas period to ensure you return refreshed.
  • Health & Wellness: We provide private medical cover and have dedicated Mental Health First Aiders on-site to support our staff’s well-being.
  • Financial Growth: In addition to a competitive salary, we offer pension contributions and a discretionary annual bonus based on performance.
  • Relocation Support: If you are moving to join us, we offer relocation assistance to make your transition to the Isle of Wight as smooth as possible.
  • Island Perks: Enjoy discounts on ferry travel, making it easy to visit the mainland while enjoying the perks of island living.

Why the Isle of Wight?

The Isle of Wight has evolved into one of the UK’s premier lifestyle destinations. For a Game Designer, it offers the perfect backdrop for creative thought. It is one of the sunniest regions in the UK, where the beach is never more than 25 minutes away. It is an ideal location for those who value outdoor living, family life, and a break from the frantic pace of major metropolitan hubs, all while working on world-class, high-profile gaming titles.

How to Apply

If you are a Senior Game Designer ready to help lead an independent studio into its next decade of success, we want to see your work.

Application Process:

Please submit a comprehensive Cover Letter detailing your design philosophy alongside your CV. We are particularly interested in seeing examples of systems you have balanced or features you have seen through to completion.
